Although he\u2019s now starring in hit drama Yellowjackets<\/a>, Elijah Wood is recognisable to many for his career-defining role of Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings<\/a> film trilogy and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.<\/p>\n Now, Wood has spoken out about the recent news that Warner Bros is developing more films in the Lord of the Rings franchise. The upcoming remakes are in the early stages of development, but speaking about the new movies, Wood told GQ<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019m fascinated and I\u2019m excited. I hope it\u2019s good. I\u2019m surprised\u2014I don\u2019t know why I\u2019m surprised because, of course there would be more movies.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cObviously at the core of that, is a desire to make a lot of money. It\u2019s not that a bunch of executives are like, \u2018Let\u2019s make really awesome art.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd, again, not begrudging anybody because, of course, it is commerce. But great art can come from commerce. So those two things are not mutually exclusive.\u201d<\/p> He added: \u201cBut\u00a0Lord of the Rings didn\u2019t come out of that place. It came out of a passion for these books and wanting to see them realized. And I hope that that is ultimately what will drive everything forward with whatever these subsequent movies are.<\/p>\n \u201cI just hope that it\u2019s the same motivating factor at its core, whenever they hire a screenwriter and a filmmaker \u2013 that it is with reverence for Tolkien\u2019s material and enthusiasm to explore it.\u201d<\/p>\n Not much is currently known about the new films apart from the fact that they\u2019re supposed to be entirely separate to Prime Video\u2019s The Rings of Power<\/a> and mark a new deal between Warner Bros and Embracer Group.
