Karen Gillan reckons that incoming Doctor Who<\/a> star Ncuti Gatwa will \u201cinject a new lease of life\u201d into the beloved sci-fi show when he takes over as the Fifteenth Doctor.<\/p>\n The Amy Pond star \u2013 who appeared as the Eleventh Doctor\u2019s companion between 2010 and 2012 \u2013 made the comments while speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com<\/a> to promote her role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3<\/a>.<\/p>\n After first expressing excitement that there would once again be a Scottish actor playing the Time Lord, Gillan revealed that she was overjoyed with the casting of both Gatwa and Millie Gibson (who will play new companion Ruby Sunday).<\/p>\n \u201cMy first reaction to both of them being cast was excitement,\u201d she said. \u201cI sort of feel like they\u2019re going to inject a whole new lease of life \u2013 like it really got my attention. When I saw both of them, I was like, \u2018OK, I\u2019m ready to jump into this now.’\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cAnd it\u2019s just exciting, and it\u2019s new, and he\u2019s clearly brilliant because I\u2019ve seen him in other things. So I think it\u2019s a really good piece of casting.\u201d<\/p>\n Gillan is one of many former stars of the series to have sung the praises of the Sex Education<\/a> star since he was cast in the role, with her former co-star Matt Smith calling it \u201cthe most sensational bit of casting\u201d<\/a> during an interview last year.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Meanwhile, Gillan has herself been linked with a possible return to the show for this year\u2019s 60th-anniversary celebrations \u2013 with some fans speculating that she could join other returning faces including David Tennant and Catherine Tate.<\/p>\n Asked what she made of those rumours<\/a>, Gillan explained: \u201cIt\u2019s always nice when people appreciate anything that you\u2019ve done. But no, it\u2019s cool to see that people are still intrigued by Amy Pond and whether she could return.
