The star discussed the possibility of Vera season 12 and a setting for a future Christmas special. <\/p>
DCI Vera Stanhope is set to make a return this summer, with the two episodes of Vera<\/a> filmed during lockdown airing later this month.<\/p>\n A further four episodes begun filming earlier this year and are expected to be released on ITV in 2022. But will there be more Vera after that?<\/p>\n It\u2019s definitely a possibility, according to star Brenda Blethyn. \u201cAt the end of filming every season I think, \u2018Oh, thank the Lord I\u2019m going home. Never again\u2019,\u201d she said. \u201cBut it\u2019s like having a lovely slap-up meal. You\u2019ve eaten too much. You couldn\u2019t eat another morsel. And you\u2019re shown the menu again. \u2018Take it away, take it away!\u2019 But then a week later you get hungry again.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cBy the time I go back to Newcastle again I\u2019m always very much looking forward to it.\u201d<\/p>\n However, there is another element that could potentially get in the way of Vera season 12.\u00a0\u201cIt rather depends on the COVID situation and putting my priorities in order,\u201d Blethyn explained.<\/p>\n Many changes had to be made to go ahead with the two episodes filmed at the height of the pandemic, including regular testing, sanitising sets and getting creative with filming interviewing scenes.<\/p>\n In terms of plot, however, there\u2019s certainly plenty of ground to cover, with Anne Cleeves\u2019 latest Vera novel arriving in 2020.\u00a0\u201cThe Darkest Evening<\/a> is a great read. A terrific story. Telling a little more of Vera\u2019s background,\u201d Blethyn said. \u201cI would love to film it one day. There is a lot of snow in it so it would be a great Christmas special. And I mean a LOT of snow. Scotland maybe. Or Iceland? Or what about Norway? That\u2019d be nice.\u201d<\/p>\n Vera will return to ITV at 8pm on the 29th August. Looking for something else to watch?
