Notably, Marvel Studios is yet to officially announce the news, but Hollywood publication Deadline<\/a> has heard from reputable sources that the project is indeed going ahead.<\/p>\n Captain America 4 (working title) is to be co-written by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner Malcolm Spellman<\/a> and screenwriter Dalan Musson, but the film is likely to be a long way from release.<\/p>\n There\u2019s no shortage of directions that Sam\u2019s story could go next, with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier episode 6<\/a> setting up Sharon Carter as an unlikely new villain, as well as a budding new friendship for Sam and Bucky.<\/p>\n Read on to find out everything you need to know about Captain America 4.<\/p>\n It\u2019s still very early days and we don\u2019t know if the project is actually in development, so there\u2019s no official release date as yet.<\/p>\n The slate of upcoming Marvel movies<\/a>\u00a0is pretty packed already, with the pandemic forcing Disney to reshuffle release dates. Plus, many of the mega franchise\u2019s forthcoming titles officially in development are still awaiting a release date, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3<\/a>, Ant-Man 3<\/a> and Blade<\/a>.<\/p>\n Considering how closely interconnected the MCU is, whatever release date a fourth Cap movie gets will likely have to tie into existing storylines.\u00a0Based on this, we don\u2019t think we\u2019ll see it in theatres until\u00a0late 2022 at the very earliest, though a 2023 release date is more likely.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p> According to Deadline, Mackie will indeed be leading the cast of the as-yet-untitled Captain America 4, although expect the actor to remain coy about the project until Marvel Studios offers an official unveiling.<\/p>\n When rumours of another Cap movie first broke, Mackie told EW<\/a> that he didn\u2019t know anything about it, but that he was \u201cexcited\u201d to see what the future holds for his character.<\/p>\n \u201cI literally found out yesterday in a grocery store,\u201d he said. \u201cThe checkout guy named Dwayne, a cool cat, he\u2019s like, \u2018Yo, man. Is this real?!\u2019 [holds up a cellphone] I\u2019m like, \u2018I haven\u2019t heard anything.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s what I love about working for Marvel. They call you, they\u2019re like, \u2018Come to L.A. We wanna tell you what\u2019s going on.\u2019 So, I\u2019m excited to see what happens, but I haven\u2019t heard anything.\u201d<\/p>\n Mackie added: \u201cWhat would be really bad is if the movie [Captain America 4] starts and I get blown out of the sky.\u201d<\/p>\n The final episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ended with a revised title card that confirmed Sam Wilson\u2019s position as the MCU\u2019s new full-time Captain America.<\/p>\n Other The Falcon and The Winter Soldier cast<\/a> members could be joining Mackie on the big screen, especially if the movie becomes a replacement for a second series.<\/p>\n Should the updated title screen be used as the movie\u2019s title, we can expect Sebastian Stan\u2019s Bucky Barnes to appear. Despite getting off to a rough start, Bucky and Sam worked out their differences, so it would make sense for Sam to enlist the super soldier\u2019s help against his latest foe.<\/p>\n Earlier in the year, there were also rumours that Chris Evans could return as Captain America<\/a>, following his supposed exit from from the franchise in Avengers: Endgame. If Evans is set to return, it makes sense that it would be during a fourth Captain America movie.<\/p>\n Emily VanCamp\u2019s Sharon Carter<\/a> and Wyatt Russell\u2019s John Walker<\/a> \u2013 aka the U.S. Agent \u2013 could also appear.<\/p>\n At this point, we have no idea of what the plot of Captain America 4 will be. Should the series work as a continuation of Sam\u2019s story beyond his Disney Plus debut, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier certainly left plenty of loose threads for the winged Cap.<\/p>\n For one, Julia Louis-Dreyfus\u2019s\u00a0Contessa Valentina Allegra<\/a> said things were about to get weird when she recruited John Walker for an undisclosed future mission, so that could certainly come into play.<\/p>\n There\u2019s also the possibility that Sharon Carter will go full villain, judging by that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier final post-credit scene<\/a>. Spellman did have something to say about that.<\/p>\n \u201cI think Sharon, how villainous is she? I don\u2019t know. You know what I\u2019m saying? Did she really hurt Sam at all in that storyline?\u201d he told ComicBook.com<\/a>. \u201cLike, to me, Sharon could go all the way bad, or could come back. Who knows where she\u2019s going to go? You know what I\u2019m saying? I don\u2019t know. I haven\u2019t put in a ton of thought. I might\u2019ve just said too much right there.\u201d<\/p>\n Of course, it\u2019s also more than possible that a brand new storyline, connected to Marvel\u2019s Phase Five, will be put in place for Sam\u2019s first big screen solo adventure.<\/p>\n Unsurprisingly, no trailer yet.
