It comes following the news last week that Schofield was stepping down from his presenting role on This Morning<\/a>, with the show providing a brief tribute<\/a> to him on Monday 22nd May 2023.<\/p>\n In the statement, Schofield claims he misled multiple parties surrounding an affair with a colleague on This Morning, who is now no longer with the programme.<\/p> Within the lengthy statement, Schofield told the Daily Mail: \u201cI am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.<\/p>\n \u201cI have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.<\/p>\n \u201cI will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.\u201d<\/p>\n Schofield asked for the media to give privacy to the former This Morning employee with whom he had an affair and also maintained that their relationship was consensual and legal.<\/p>\n \u201cI did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning,\u201d he said in the statement.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n \u201cContrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n In a statement to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, an ITV spokesperson commented: \u201cWe are deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield.\u201d<\/p>\n They continued: \u201cThe relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust.
