Incoming Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has revealed work is well underway on her character\u2019s debut storyline.<\/p>\n
She was announced to be joining the long-running ITV soap<\/a> in April, where she\u2019ll be portraying Cassie, the thought-dead biological mother of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).<\/p>\n Of course, Sweeney is no stranger to the world of soaps, having previously played Lindsey Corkhill for 12 years on Channel 4\u2019s now-cancelled Brookside.<\/p>\n Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a> at the British Soap Awards<\/a>, the actor was thrilled to return to the beloved genre.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s great! I filmed three days a few weeks ago, then I\u2019m back in next week,\u201d she explained. \u201cI\u2019m quite full-on then, so it\u2019s wonderful\u2026 Just walking in onto the set and seeing the cobbles as well; that was a real moment.\u201d<\/p>\n Far from being thrown into the deep end, Sweeney went on to say she felt quite at home on the Corrie set, where she was reunited with several former colleagues.<\/p>\n \u201cI am a newcomer but I knew quite a few people from there from the old days when I was in a soap,\u201d she said. \u201cSome of the old Brookie crew are working on Corrie now, so it was a lot of familiar faces.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n As for what fans can expect from her new role, Sweeney added: \u201cShe\u2019s certainly going to cause some waves. She\u2019s going to ruffle a few feathers, I think. She\u2019s so different from anything I\u2019ve ever done before.\u201d<\/p>\n Expect Sweeney to make her Coronation Street debut as Cassie on Wednesday 28th June<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Previously, producer Iain MacLeod teased: \u201cClaire bowled us over in her audition and the scenes with her, Tyrone and Evelyn will be electric.<\/p>\n \u201cHer arrival will mark the start of a tumultuous time for Tyrone and the family and her impact will be felt across the street in the weeks and months that follow.\u201d<\/p>\n Additional reporting by Helen Daly<\/em><\/p> Coronation Street airs weeknights on ITV.
