An executive producer for steamy period drama Outlander<\/a> has commented on why a memorable intimate scene from the books was cut from the screen adaptation.<\/p>\n The television series hasn\u2019t typically shied away from the sexual elements of Diana Gabaldon\u2019s novels<\/a>, but one encounter between Claire (Caitr\u00edona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) was deemed too difficult to stage.<\/p>\n The moment in question is featured in the seventh Outlander book \u2013 titled An Echo in the Bone \u2013 and finds the couple in a secluded outdoor setting, where they begin to feel a bit frisky.<\/p> In a surprising change of pace, they decide not to have sex, but rather to pleasure themselves in front of each other. Executive producer Maril Davis has told fans they shouldn\u2019t expect to see that depicted in the show.<\/p>\n \u201cSome of it was a location thing,\u201d she explained (via TVLine<\/a>). \u201cYou know, in the book, it\u2019s a little \u2013 and I love the books \u2013 but it was hard to imagine that scene being pulled off [on the TV show].<\/p>\n \u201cAnd if you see our sets\u2026 it\u2019s just not a possibility. But Davis added that there are plenty of other things for viewers to look forward to in Outlander season 7.<\/p>\n \u201cThinking this could be our last season, we had tried to smush as much stuff in as possible,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019m actually pretty impressed with the writers, because it feels seamless this season.\u201d<\/p>\n Outlander was ultimately renewed for an eighth season<\/a>, which is to be its last, while a prequel is also in development.<\/p>
