There She Goes is returning to BBC Two for a one-off special<\/a>.<\/p>\n

David Tennant<\/a> and Jessica Hynes reprise their roles as Simon and Emily Yates, <\/span>a couple whose youngest child has a severe learning disability due to an undiagnosed chromosomal disorder, while young actor Miley Locke returns as their on-screen daughter, Rosie.<\/span><\/p>\n

The comedy drama is inspired by the real-life experience of writers Shaun Pye and Sarah Crawford, and all the episodes interweave flashbacks to when Rosie is first diagnosed, with scenes of her as a young girl of nine in series one, and 11 in series two.<\/p>\n

The upcoming special sees Rosie approaching 13 and heading into her teenage years, which presents the family with a bunch of new challenges.<\/p>\n

Talking earlier this month (June) at the launch of the hour-long special, Tennant spoke about why he was proud<\/a> to be involved in the series.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d never read anything like it,\u201d he said. \u201cAs Shaun rightly points out, stories about children like this are very rare. But one that was told so candidly, with such rawness and truthfulness, it just felt so compelling to read.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019d met Shaun a couple of times, but I didn\u2019t know this was his life experience. It was a total surprise to me and yet I was immediately kind of captured by it\u2026 every moment.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just thought this is so bold and yet it\u2019s so true, and so real and so effective.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tennant continued: \u201cIt remains one of the things I\u2019m most proud to be part of. I think it\u2019s really special and really different and really human. I\u2019m just really glad we\u2019ve got to make it once, twice, and now this special as well, because there\u2019s not much else like it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Who is Simon?\u00a0<\/strong>Father to eleven-year-old Rosie, who has a chromosomal disorder. Simon uses humour and sarcasm to deflect from his anxieties about parenthood, and (in flashbacks) from his alcoholism when Rosie was a toddler.<\/p>\n

Where have I seen David Tennant before?\u00a0<\/strong>Tennant previously played\u00a0the title role of Doctor Who, and more recently the demon Crowley in Amazon\u2019s Good Omens<\/a> adaptation, alongside Michael Sheen, with whom he reunited for BBC lockdown comedy Staged<\/a>.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s starred in numerous projects, including Broadchurch (as DI Alex Hardy), the recent Deadwater Fell<\/a>, Netflix\u2019s Criminal<\/a>, Casanova, Jessica Jones (as Kilgrave), and the Margot Robbie film Mary Queen of Scots.<\/p>\n

Who plays Emily?\u00a0<\/strong>Mother to Rosie, she is more practical and accepting of her daughter\u2019s disability than Simon is. She gives birth to Rosie in 2006.<\/p>\n

Where have I seen Jessica Hynes before?\u00a0<\/strong>The BAFTA-winning writer and actress is probably best known for playing \u201cright-on\u201d PR Siobhan in the BBC\u2019s satirical shows Twenty Twelve and W1A.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s also known for her collaborations with Simon Pegg, including her breakout role when she co-wrote and starred in cult comedy Spaced. More recently, she played Edith Lyons in the BBC drama series Years and Years<\/a>.<\/p>\n
