Stand-up comedian Bridget Christie is the mind behind Channel 4\u2019s new comedy-drama The Change<\/a>, which follows a woman seeking self-discovery as she begins to go through the menopause.<\/p>\n

In the hopes of reclaiming countless hours of invisible labour she has performed for her family, she takes herself on a solo adventure to the Forest of Dean, where she seeks a time capsule hidden there as a child.<\/p>\n

However, it isn\u2019t long before she becomes acquainted with several eccentric locals in a nearby village, which finds itself divided by social change and threatened by business interests.<\/p>\n

Christie wrote the series and plays the lead role of Linda, while she\u2019s joined by a number of well-known comic talents including Jim Howick, Liza Tarbuck, Omid Djalili and Tanya Moodie.<\/p>\n

Who is Linda?\u00a0<\/strong>Linda is a woman who feels she has lost a sense of identity. Having spent many, many hours performing invisible labour for her family \u2013 logging every minute in a series of diaries \u2013 she feels she has earned some time to herself.<\/p>\n

The revelation that she is starting the menopause is the last push she needs to take herself on a solo adventure to the Forest of Dean, which is an area she remembers fondly from childhood trips. While she doesn\u2019t initially find what she\u2019s looking for, she does take an interest in the lives of local residents.<\/p>\n

Who is The Verderer?\u00a0<\/strong>The Verderer is a community radio DJ, whose daily show prides itself on delving into hotly-debated culture war topics. He is a staunch defender of tradition, not wishing to see meaningful social change in his village.<\/p>\n

Howick described the character as \u201ca departure<\/a>\u201d from his usual roles.<\/p>\n

What else has Jim Howick been in?\u00a0<\/strong>Howick is currently starring in BBC sitcoms Here We Go and Ghosts, the latter of which he also co-created. It is his fourth collaboration with the Horrible Histories troupe, whose work includes the eponymous CBBC\u2019s educational series as well as Sky\u2019s Yonderland and Shakespeare spoof Bill. You might also recognise Howick from Peep Show, where he had a recurring role as sickly colleague Gerard.<\/p>\n

Who is Joy?\u00a0<\/strong>Joy is a fellow community radio DJ, although her presenting style is rather more level-headed than The Verderer. She is known for posing thought-provoking questions, encouraging listeners to reflect on society as it stands. Despite their opposing viewpoints on virtually everything, there is an odd chemistry between Joy and the Verderer.<\/p>\n

What else has Tanya Moodie been in?\u00a0<\/strong>Fans of British comedy may recognise Moodie for playing Meg on the BBC\u2019s acclaimed Motherland<\/a>.
