WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Secret Invasion episode 1<\/strong><\/p>\n The first episode of Secret Invasion<\/a> ended with a major shock, as Cobie Smulders\u2019 character Maria Hill<\/a> was killed at the hands of Skrull antagonist Gravik.<\/p>\n Judging from the closing scenes it looked like Maria was pretty unambiguously dead, but some fans have retained hope that the situation could be more complex and she could yet live to fight another day.<\/p>\n And now Smulders herself has weighed in on the matter during an interview with Variety<\/a>, explaining that it \u201cfeels like the end\u201d for the character who she\u2019s been playing on and off since Avengers Assemble in 2012.<\/p> However, she did also offer some a small ray of hope that there could yet be a way back.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s such a vast, complicated, multiversed world that Marvel is living in,\u201d she said. \u201cSo I suppose anything is possible. This is all above my level of access, so I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n \u201cHer death propelled the story in a much more vulnerable direction for the rest of the characters in the show. It certainly is increasing the stakes and setting up Fury to be in a very emotional state. I kind of can\u2019t believe it. Even talking about it out loud feels like I\u2019m doing something wrong.\u201d<\/p>\n Smulders has played Maria Hill in six different MCU films\u00a0 \u2013 most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home \u2013 and she has denied reports that she will be reprising the role one last time in upcoming film The Marvels, recently telling Vanity Fair<\/a> that \u201cI don\u2019t know anything about that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
