Episode 23 of the show saw the love triangle between Jess Harding<\/a>, Sammy Root<\/a> and Mitchel Taylor<\/a> intensify, while Zachariah Noble<\/a> and Kady McDermott<\/a> worked to overcome her awkward rejection of his kiss on the terrace the night before.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Viewers also watched the girls compete to be the villa\u2019s \u2018top snogger\u2019 in the kissing challenge, and sadly saw two of the Islanders leave the villa in another shock dumping.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n If you missed all the action, then don\u2019t worry \u2013 RadioTimes.com<\/a> has you covered with our handy recap video above.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Keep reading to find out everything that happened in episode 23 of Love Island\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The episode started with the Islanders having a morning debrief about the night before \u2013 and it soon became clear that some of the contestants are on different pages to their partners.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While Tyrique Hyde<\/a> and Ella Thomas<\/a> were still on cloud nine from their first date, with Tyrique sweetly revealing the romantic day had brought the couple closer and said: \u201clife\u2019s like a fairytale, it\u2019s crazy\u201d, Whitney Adebayo<\/a> explained to the girls that she had chatted to Mehdi Edno<\/a> about their relationship, and they\u2019d agreed to be open to getting to know other people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n But the girls soon figured out that Whit wasn\u2019t happy with the situation, and told her to tell Medhi how she feels. When the French model filled the boys in on their conversation, even the often emotionally-distant Tyrique told him: \u201cI feel like Whitney downplays how she feels about you. You defo need to be patient with her.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The subject of Zachariah\u2019s rebuffed kiss was also a hot topic, as he discussed his feelings for Kady and revealed that he \u201chasn\u2019t felt like that in a long time,\u201d (despite telling Molly Marsh<\/a> that he loved her as she was dumped from the villa!)<\/span><\/p>\n But while she admitted to liking the south London personal trainer, Kady told the group: \u201cI still thought he\u2019d be mourning Molly, I didn\u2019t think he\u2019d kiss me straightaway.\u201d You and us both, Kady!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n And things got even more awkward between the pair when Zach and Ty made a romantic double-date breakfast for her and Ella. Kady appeared to confuse Zach with Scott van der Sluis<\/a> or her ex-boyfriend, Scott Thomas. Eek!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mitchel also thought things were heading in the right direction with Jess, and told the boys that \u201cthings are going really well\u201d, but the aesthetics practitioner admitted that if it were possible, she would use \u201ca magic wand to go back and be coupled up with Sammy\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m trying to move past the Sammy situation, but I just keep bringing myself back to it,\u201d she admitted to the girls. \u201cIf Mitch kissed me, I think I\u2019d do the same as you, Kady [and say no].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n It was then time for the Islanders to freshen up, as Sammy got a text revealing they were about to play the kissing challenge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The boys lined up and wore ear-cancelling headphones and eye masks to keep the competition fair, and rated each anonymous girl\u2019s performance out of ten marks to reveal who would be the villa\u2019s \u2018top snogger\u2019. Cringe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While the competition did have its sweet moments, such as Ty saying Ella\u2019s kiss \u201cfelt like home\u201d, the girls later revealed that they weren\u2019t impressed with Mitch\u2019s smooch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cMitch was giving teeth, Scott was giving\u2026 he just wasn\u2019t giving,\u201d Whitney cackled later in the Beach Hut.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A delighted Jess came out on top in the challenge, and Kady \u2013 who, in fairness, didn\u2019t put in much effort \u2013 came last.<\/span><\/p>\n In the evening, Jess thought it was only right to address her feelings with Sammy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Pulling the project manager for a chat, Jess told him that she was finding it hard to force the romance with gas engineer Mitch, and added: \u201cI have tried, but I don\u2019t generally see that there is anything.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n After listening to what she had to say, Sammy, who is currently coupled-up with Mal Nicol,<\/a> said: \u201cI\u2019ve known her for six days\u2026 I\u2019m not in a position to say: \u2018It\u2019s just Mal.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Their conversation prompted him to have an awkward talk with Mal, where he repeated what Jess had said \u2013 but added that he could \u201cgenuinely can see something with\u201d the Scottish picture researcher.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Jess also had to come clean to Mitch, telling him how much she values their friendship.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n While he asked her to \u201cgive it a day or so\u201d to think about her decision, Jess told him that she didn\u2019t \u201cfeel like it\u2019s going anywhere\u201d, and added: \u201cI look at you like my best mate in here.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p> The Islanders were then in for a shock, as unbeknownst to them, viewers had been voting to keep their favourite singleton in the competition.<\/span><\/p>\n Gathered around the fire pit, it was revealed that the two contestants with the fewest votes would be dumped from the villa immediately \u2013 Mal and Mehdi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n An emotional Whitney described the shocking result as \u201cbrutal\u201d, and had one last heartfelt conversation with Mehdi before he returned to the UK.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI feel like we were getting there, even though we had bumps, we were working to get there,\u201d he told her. \u201cYou\u2019re here to find love, don\u2019t be sad, go for it because you never know. I\u2019ll miss you so much.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mehdi added: \u201cI\u2019m sad to be separated from you, but I\u2019m not upset, I\u2019m grateful.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n And although she was understandably tearful, the episode did prompt a lovely moment between Whitney and Catherine Agbaje, <\/a>as the Dublin real estate agent told her friend: \u201c<\/span>I just hope you know that you\u2019re everyone\u2019s heart in here.\u201d Aww!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Love Island airs on <\/strong>ITV2 at 9pm.
