After appearing in Top Gun: Maverick last year, Tom Cruise is back on the big screen as IMF agent Ethan Hunt in a seventh instalment of the Mission: Impossible<\/a> franchise.<\/p>\n

And the story being told in the film<\/a> is only just getting started, with another entry in the two-parter set to land in UK cinemas next year.

Following on from the dramatic ending<\/a> of Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part 1<\/a>, the sequel will once again see Tom Cruise\u2019s IMF agent Ethan Hunt and his allies do battle with a number of antagonists as they aim to get control of the unpredictable AI weapon known as the Entity \u2013 and is sure to pack in plenty more death-defying stunts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But when can fans expect to see the new film in cinemas? And which cast members will be returning alongside Cruise?<\/p>\n

Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part Two release date<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part 2 is currently scheduled to be released on Friday 28th June 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The good news for fans is that there won\u2019t be too long to wait for the second part \u2013 certainly not when compared to the five years between the sixth entry with Mission: Impossible \u2013 Fallout and the latest film.<\/p>\n

Given the film has not yet concluded filming, that date could yet be pushed back if there are any unforeseen delays \u2013 especially given the ongoing strikes affecting Hollywood \u2013 but we\u2019ll keep you abreast with all the latest developments here.<\/p>\n

Who will star in Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part Two?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Most of the Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part One cast<\/a> will return.<\/p>\n

In the least surprising casting news of all time, Tom Cruise will once again be reprising the role of Ethan Hunt in the new film, no doubt attempting to pull off all manner of incredible stunts as he tries to top the already iconic motorbike cliff jump from Part 1.<\/p>\n

Ethan will once again be joined on his impossible mission by long-term allies Luther Stickell and Benji Dunn, played by Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg respectively, while Hayley Atwell will be back as new IMF recruit Grace following her franchise debut in Part 1.<\/p>\n

However, one big name who looks like she won\u2019t return \u2013 unless there are plans for any flashback sequences \u2013 is Rebecca Ferguson, whose popular character Ilsa Faust was tragically killed off during the newly released film.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, a number of other characters who debuted in Part 1 are also in line for a return, including Esai Morales as villain Gabriel, Shea Wigham and Greg Tarzan Davis as CIA agents Jasper and Degas, and the scene-stealing Pom Klementieff as assassin Paris \u2013 who narrowly avoided death at the end of Part 1.<\/p>\n

Henry Czerny will also return as IMF director Eugene Kittridge, while Rolf Saxon will reprise his role as another character who first appeared in the very first Mission: Impossible film \u2013 CIA analyst William Donloe.<\/p>\n

A number of new characters will also join the cast, with Holt McCallany, Nick Offerman and Hannah Waddingham among those set to star.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether Angela Bassett \u2013 who starred as CIA director Erika Sloane in Fallout \u2013 will once again be absent after COVID travel restrictions ruled her out of an appearance in Part 1.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s interesting, she was going to be the head of the CIA, she was going to be in that room with all the other heads of the intelligence community that you meet,\u201d director Christopher McQuarrie told Variety<\/a>\u00a0in a recent interview. \u201cAnd we\u2019re not done with Angela Bassett.<\/p>\n

\u201cAngela is too fabulous. You can never, ever let Angela get away,\u201d he added. \u201cThere\u2019s always a plan in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mission: Impossible \u2013 Dead Reckoning Part Two plot<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Although no official plot synopsis has been provided at this stage, we know that the film will follow on directly from the events of Part 1, which saw Ethan and his pals get their hands on the key that should help them to control the Entity.<\/p>\n

Now armed with the knowledge that the key unlocks the chamber holding the computer on the sunk submarine Sevastopol, Ethan, Benji, Luther, and Grace will race to get there while no doubt fighting off the advances of various enemies including Gabriel.<\/p>\n

And it seems likely that the Entity will continue causing all sorts of havoc before they get close to controlling it, so it certainly won\u2019t be an easy task. This is not mission difficult, after all, it\u2019s mission impossible!<\/p>\n

Although Cruise and McQuarrie initially appeared to suggest that this two-parter would bring Ethan Hunt\u2019s story to close, recent comments from the pair indicate that this won\u2019t be the case after all.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Fandango<\/a> in June 2023, McQuarrie said that not only would this not be the end, but that he and Cruise had also already been discussing ideas for what the future might hold for the IMF.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Cruise said he hoped to take a leaf out of Harrison Ford\u2019s book and keep making action films until he was in his 80s.<\/p>\n

\u201cHarrison Ford is a legend; I hope to be still going; I\u2019ve got 20 years to catch up with him,\u201d he told the Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>.<\/b><\/p>\n
