We\u2019re yet to see the first series of upcoming fantasy The Wheel of Time reach our screens, but production has already begun on a second run of the Amazon show \u2013 which is based on the epic fantasy novels<\/a> by Robert Jordan.<\/p>\n A second series was confirmed at the same time that the first run wrapped filming, so it appears that Amazon has a lot of faith in the series \u2013 and with the source novels comprising a total of 14 books, it looks like this could be a show that is here for the long haul.<\/p>\n Ahead of the first series airing, fans have now been treated to some first-look images, which were released by Entertainment Weekly<\/a> in August 2021, and show several cast members including Rosamund Pike as Moiraine and Madeleine Madden as Egwene al\u2019Vere.<\/p>\n The series is set in an alternate world where magic exists but only a select few women are allowed to access it, such as the members of the powerful Aes Sedai organisation.<\/p>\n One such special member is Moiraine (Pike), who embarks on a dangerous journey from the small town of Two Rivers with five companions, one of whom is prophesied to save or destroy humanity.<\/p>\n Oscar nominee Sophie Okonedo (Hotel Rwanda, Undercover) takes on the recurring role of Amyrlin Seat Siuan Sanche, while Rafe Judkins \u2013 who previously served as a writer on Marvel\u2019s Agents of SHIELD<\/a> \u2013 is leading the new streaming series as showrunner and executive producer.<\/p>\n \u201cThe belief Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television have shown in The Wheel of Time has been incredible to see throughout the entire process of making this show, Judkins said of the drama getting another season.<\/p>\n \u201cGetting a second season order before the first season has even premiered is such a vote of confidence in the work we are doing and the property itself, and we couldn\u2019t be happier to be able to continue to live and work in the world Robert Jordan created. This property is one I\u2019ve loved since I was a teenager, and seeing it brought to life with the resources to make it truly worthy of what\u2019s on the page is something I can\u2019t wait for the other fans of the books to see. And season two just keeps expanding the world we built in season two.\u201d<\/p>\n The fantasy drama has the potential to run and run, as Jordan\u2019s series of novels on which it is adapted spanned fourteen volumes in total.<\/p>\n The Wheel of Time finished filming in May but there\u2019s no exact release date just yet. Like many other series, it was delayed by the pandemic.
