You asked, and we answered. Britannia season two ended in dramatic fashion back in November 2019, when druid leader Veran had a climactic confrontation with his destructive brother Harka.<\/p>\n There has since been a bit of a fantasy-shaped whole in our lives, as Britannia along with other sword and sorcery shows such as The Witcher<\/a> and House of the Dragon<\/a> have had filming delays due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n However, we now have a trailer and release date for our next trip to 1st century AD Britain, and it\u2019s not long before the next clash between Celts, Romans and drugged-up Druids.<\/p>\n Here\u2019s everything you need to know about Britannia season three.<\/p>\n Britannia will be ruling the airwaves once more when season three begins on Tuesday 24th August 2021<\/strong>.<\/p>\n RadioTimes.com<\/a> exclusively revealed the air date of season three<\/a>, when all eight episodes will also be simultaneously released on streaming service NOW.<\/p>\n A similar tactic was used for Britannia season two, as well as other Sky originals such as A Discovery of Witches<\/a> and Intergalactic.<\/p>\n Filming on the third season was shut down in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, but\u00a0Sky announced in September 2020 that filming was back \u201cunderway\u201d for the historical drama.<\/p>\n Prior to the show\u2019s recommissioning, Mackenzie Crook told RadioTimes.com<\/strong> that he thought the signs were \u201chopeful\u201d for a third run:\u00a0\u201cNothing has definitely been confirmed, but I know that everyone is hopeful and that preparations are being made [for if a third season is commissioned].\u201d<\/p>\n He added that he saw scope for it to continue beyond a third season, adding: \u201cWell, the Romans stayed [in Britain] for 400 hundred years so you\u2019ve got a lot of material there and we\u2019re only a couple of years into the invasion, so who knows?<\/p>\n \u201cI think the Druids were wiped out in a big battle in maybe AD60, around 20 years after the invasion[\u2026] so if I can keep hold of the [Druid] leadership I\u2019ve got a couple of series left in me.\u201d<\/p> Britannia season three will see the introduction of a brand new central (and \u201cterrifying\u201d) character, played by Sophie Okonedo (Ratched<\/a>).<\/p>\n The Death on the Nile<\/a> actress plays Hemple, the wife of General Aulus\u00a0(David Morrissey), who \u201carrives in Britannia to find out why her husband has\u00a0failed with Lokka\u2019s\u00a0mission to capture the chosen one, Cait,\u201d according to Sky\u2019s synopsis \u2013 and she certainly seems set to shake things up.<\/p>\n It seems that Amena (Annabel Scholey) will get caught up between the terrifying twosome of Aulus and Hemple, as the Celt \u201cfinds herself in a lethal M\u00e9nage \u00e0 trois with both of them.\u201d<\/p>\n Sophie Okonedo said of her casting:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m so glad to be plunged into the weird and wonderful world of\u00a0Britannia. I was already a fan of the\u00a0show and its writers Jez and\u00a0Tom Butterworth, so I jumped for joy when they\u00a0offered me the wonderful character of Hemple. Without giving too much away I\u2019ll\u00a0just say this woman has a\u00a0huge appetite\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Screenwriter James Richardson added:\u00a0\u201cSophie is one of the UK\u2019s greatest actors and we all feel very privileged to\u00a0have her play our new and particularly malevolent\u00a0force for series three. She\u00a0is an actor with an\u00a0enormous range and manages to make you laugh whilst being\u00a0completely terrifying. A perfect fit for Britannia!\u00a0We feel very fortunate to\u00a0be able to continue making such an ambitious show about a time\u00a0when everything\u00a0changes.\u201d<\/p>\n It looks as if season three will mix things up a bit as Cait\u2019s (Eleanor Worthington-Cox) ongoing journey to become the Chosen One undergoes a transformation due to a \u201cdecision that will tie her to the future of her war-torn people and their ravaged land.\u201d There\u2019ll be more Druid drama also as Cait\u2019s mentor Divis (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) gets a mysterious and undesired new job, while Veran (Mackenzie Crook) travels to the underworld and sees the future.<\/p>\n In addition to Sophie Okonedo\u2019s new casting, season three will see the return of actors David Morrissey, Mackenzie Crook, Annabel Scholey, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Eleanor Worthington-Cox, and Zo\u00eb Wanamaker.<\/p>\n It\u2019s only brief \u2013 but this season three teaser boasts some stunning visuals and several sweeping shots of the British countryside:<\/p>\n\n And a second teaser was released just in time for the new series \u2013 this time featuring a first look at some epic action.<\/p>\n You asked, and we answered.
