The Heartstopper breakout is following in Billie Piper’s footsteps. <\/p>
Yasmin Finney has opened up about the \u201cpressure\u201d that comes with being the latest Rose to grace the Doctor Who<\/a> franchise, ahead of her debut in this year\u2019s 60th anniversary specials<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Heartstopper<\/a> star was confirmed to be joining the BBC\u2019s flagship sci-fi drama last year, with her character\u2019s name later revealed in an apparent nod to Billie Piper\u2019s iconic companion.<\/p>\n It\u2019s unknown exactly what role Finney\u2019s Rose will play in the stories to come, but the actor spoke to Elle<\/a> this week about the high-profile new gig.<\/p>\n Addressing the name, she began: \u201cIt\u2019s obviously got a lot of history, hasn\u2019t it? To play a character with such history, even just the name, you\u2019ve got that pressure instantly that I didn\u2019t have with [Heartstopper role] Elle.<\/p> \u201cIt was a complete mind-blowing experience when I got cast. I can\u2019t really relive it because I was so in the moment. At first, [the show] had a code name, and then I found out what the show was and I was like, \u2018Oh my God, I\u2019ve just been cast in Doctor Who.’\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cIt\u2019s a trans character as well, and it\u2019s such a blessing as well to be able to play such a monumental character like Rose.\u201d<\/p>\n Finney went on to give fans a hint of what\u2019s to come in the 60th anniversary specials, following the recent confirmation that she has filmed scenes with Fifteenth Doctor Ncuti Gatwa<\/a> \u2013 as well as returning favourites David Tennant and Catherine Tate.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can look forward to a lot of scary things,\u201d she said. \u201cI think when you think of Doctor Who, you think of the scariest episode, the weeping angels. It\u2019s the scariest episode in history and the most popular.<\/p>\n \u201cI think in this series, I was scared when I saw some of the things. It\u2019s shivers down your spine. But, I can\u2019t tell you too much. What I can say is it is going to be full of scares, full of laughs, full of all of it.\u201d<\/p>\n Doctor Who is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
