The Fantastic Four<\/a> rumour mill has been spinning once again, and it\u2019s come up with a pretty special tidbit: Rumour has it that we could be seeing Matt Smith<\/a> as Reed Richards, and I am very here for it.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll preface this by admitting that I\u2019m somewhat biased. I first encountered Smith (and his iconic quiff) when he was announced as the Eleventh Doctor<\/a>. My reaction was instant \u2013 a sigh of utter derision (the type only a 13-year-old can give), an insistence that he\u2019d never be as good as David Tennant, and a melodramatic declaration that I\u2019d never watch Doctor Who<\/a> again.<\/p>\n

As someone who now writes about Doctor Who for a living, you can see how that went. Within a few minutes of seeing Smith\u2019s Doctor, he\u2019d won me me over \u2013 something he\u2019s proven pretty skilled at.<\/p>\n

For whatever reason, there are certain people who have always been sceptical of Smith, yet he\u2019s proven himself in every single role he\u2019s taken on \u2013 and what roles they\u2019ve been.<\/p>\n

From the Doctor to Prince Philip in The Crown<\/a> to Jack in Last Night in Soho to Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon<\/a>, he\u2019s given us varied, nuanced and scene-stealing performances.<\/p>\n

Even in Marvel\u2019s Morbius<\/a>, which viewers and critics alike agreed was a blood-sucking bust, Smith, who played Milo, Jared Leto\u2019s vampire brother, was the most interesting part, providing some deeply-needed charm and humour.<\/p>\n

After his role in Morbius, some are wary of the idea of sending Smith back into the MCU, especially as such a beloved character as Reed. But his CV proves he\u2019s the right person for the job.<\/p>

It goes without saying that absolutely nothing has been confirmed, with many of us just running with the rumour. Smith\u2019s reps have given a firm \u201cno comment\u201d to outlets reporting the rumours which, really, could mean anything. But let\u2019s dream for a moment.<\/p>\n

Smith\u2019s no stranger to playing a genius with masterful knowledge of engineering, chemistry and physics, and playing up the charisma while doing it \u2013 just look at the Eleventh Doctor. He brings heart to every role he plays, something essential for Reed and, at a time when the MCU isn\u2019t exactly winning over fans, they need someone with a history of doing just that.<\/p>\n

Some fans will certainly be hoping for the return of John Krasinski as Reed after his cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness<\/a>. But, while it was a fun homage to the viewers who fan-cast him in the role, I don\u2019t see it going beyond that.<\/p>\n

Neither, seemingly, does Krasinksi, who previously told The Wrap<\/a> that there have been no further discussions about him returning to the role.<\/p>\n
