It\u2019s been a fantastic few weeks for football in England with the women\u2019s national football team making it to the final of the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup<\/a>, and for theatre fans, it\u2019s about to get even better.<\/p>\n

Are you ready to have a ball with James Graham\u2019s phenomenal play about the England men\u2019s football team? You might have thought Dear England\u2019s season was up as its run at London\u2019s Olivier Theatre came to a close, but the transfer news has just come in, and Graham\u2019s play has been signed to the Prince Edward Theatre in the West End from October this year \u2014 lucky us!<\/p>\n

Dear England is a fictionalised account of football manager Gareth Southgate\u2019s England team based on extensive research and interviews, as well as characters who bare resemblance to real-life England squad players. The National Theatre play stars Joseph Fiennes, of Shakespeare in Love and The Handmaid\u2019s Tale fame, as Southgate.<\/p>\n

Speaking about Dear England, playwright Graham said: \u201cto put the National Game on the stage of The National Theatre has been an utter dream and, in particular, to see the subject matter draw in new audiences to watch a play. It fills me with such excitement and joy to be bringing Rupert\u2019s euphoric and entertaining production to the West End, with all its incredible movement and music and \u2014 what seems to be, for audiences so far \u2014 a deeply moving story inspired by the incredible journey of the men\u2019s England football team.\u201d<\/p>\n

With director Rupert Goold adding: \u201cI have thoroughly loved making Dear England with James, at the National Theatre. We have an incredible team of artists and actors and it\u2019s been a joy to see audiences so engaged with this production, many of whom were young people visiting theatre for the first time. I can\u2019t wait to transfer it to the West End and give even more people the opportunity to experience this brilliant play.\u201d<\/p>\n
