Sam Levinson and The Weeknd’s controversial series will not be returning for a second run. <\/p>
HBO has confirmed that The Idol<\/a> will not be returning for a second season.<\/p>\n The series \u2013 which was co-created by Euphoria<\/a> creator Sam Levinson and Abel \u2018The Weeknd\u2019 Tesfaye \u2013 aired in June and July this year but was met with a largely negative reception and suffered poorer viewership figures than hoped.<\/p>\n And now the network has confirmed that \u201cafter much thought and consideration\u201d the drama will not be continuing.<\/p> \u201cThe Idol was one of HBO\u2019s most provocative original programmes, and we\u2019re pleased by the strong audience response,\u201d read a statement from a spokesperson.<\/p>\n It continued that, \u201cHBO, as well as the creators and producers, have decided not to move forward with a second season. We\u2019re grateful to the creators, cast and crew for their incredible work.\u201d<\/p>\n The five-episode first season followed aspiring pop star Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp) and her complex relationship with self-help guru and cult leader Tedros (Abel Tesfaye) after she cancelled her tour due to a nervous breakdown.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n It first premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where it received a raft of bad reviews.<\/p>\n\n
