A jaw-dropping moment in today’s episode reveals Sam and Rebecca are on course for romance. <\/p>

Ted Lasso has left viewers reeling with a shock twist that sets up a romance for Richmond FC footballer Sam Obisanya (Toheeb Jimoh) and club owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham).<\/p>\n

Several of the characters in the show have recently been using a dating app called Bantr, which gives its users complete anonymity so that they can get to know each other based on personality alone.<\/p>\n

Previously, we saw Rebecca excitedly messaging with a charming stranger, who at one point was implied to be Ted Lasso<\/a> himself. But in episode six (\u201cThe Signal\u201d) he is revealed to actually be Richmond FC rising star, Sam.<\/p>\n

Toheeb Jimoh spoke to RadioTimes.com<\/a> about the heartwarming new story arc, pointing out that a select group of fans actually saw this development coming.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s funny because I feel like some people are going to feel like it\u2019s such a left turn,\u201d he says. \u201cBut there\u2019s so many people on social media who have messaged me and been like, \u2018Is Sam and Rebecca a thing? Is that gonna happen?\u2019 And so, there\u2019s definitely a pocket of the fanbase who had their eye on this and who are quietly shipping them together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jimoh continues: \u201cSo when it came and happened, I wasn\u2019t surprised. We\u2019ve spoken about it and it\u2019s been hinted at a little bit. I was just super excited, and me and Hannah are best friends on the set, she\u2019s just like a goofy kid, so I love whenever I get to do scenes with her.\u201d<\/span><\/p>

The final scene of episode six sees Sam message Rebecca asking if she would like to meet up in person soon, but neither he nor his boss are aware of who they are speaking to just yet.<\/p>\n

It remains to be seen what will happen when they finally arrange their blind date, but Jimoh is keen to see the two of them take their friendship to the next level.<\/p>\n

He explains: \u201cIt\u2019s one of those things where on paper, of course, it doesn\u2019t make sense: she\u2019s his employer and there\u2019s also a massive age gap. But then when you see them together\u2026 they are just two people who are compatible. <\/span>Like, they\u2019re soul bonded in a way\u2026<\/span>\u00a0so you just kind of go, \u2018Well then, why couldn\u2019t it work?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI kind of want to see this happen, and I want to explore it and see how far it can go. I really believe it\u2019s one of those things where if you find two people who are compatible on that level, who make each other happy, then I don\u2019t care \u2013 just go for it and as long as you\u2019re happy then fine.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The response to this twist from Ted Lasso\u2019s super passionate fanbase is sure to be massive, with Jimoh telling us that he plans to avoid his phone for a week after episode six drops.<\/p>\n

His hope is that the Sam and Rebecca romance will be a big enough bombshell to \u201cbreak Twitter\u201d, saying that he \u201ccan\u2019t wait\u201d for fans to finally be let in on the secret.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the thing that I\u2019m most interested in seeing what people\u2019s opinions are, because I think it could maybe divide the fanbase,\u201d he says. \u201cWho knows? Maybe it won\u2019t, but I just want to see what people\u2019s response to it is. It\u2019s gonna be chaos either way.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
