The legendary broadcaster made the decision to leave for rival station Greatest Hits Radio<\/a> earlier this year after 31 years in the mid-morning slot, claiming he felt it was \u201ctime for a change\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n But now Bruce<\/a> has revealed that he disliked some of the music he was forced to play, admitting he had started to feel \u201cbitter and entrenched\u201d.<\/span> Speaking to Gyles Brandreth for his new podcast series Rosebud, the broadcaster said: \u201cThere was a point of saying that I can\u2019t enthuse over all the new music I\u2019m having to play as much as I could over the old music.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cAnd I didn\u2019t want to get to the stage where I was badmouthing some of the music [or] pretending to like it. <\/span>I certainly did think I\u2019ve got a bit more to offer.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI didn\u2019t want to be declining over the next three or four years and still doing the same show, but everybody around me getting younger and thinking, \u2018Am I the old bloke in the corner here?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI was the youngster on the station and then almost overnight I became the veteran, and I didn\u2019t want to become the old grump in the corner saying \u201cthings aren\u2019t what they used to be\u201d, or [to] any new idea say, \u201cNo, we tried that, didn\u2019t work\u201d, which does happen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI just felt I would get more bitter and entrenched.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Talking about his move to Greatest Hits Radio, he said he feels \u201crejuvenated\u201d and although he \u201c<\/span>loved working for the BBC,\u201d he felt it was the right time to \u201ctry something else\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n His departure from the BBC ended on an abrupt note after he was asked to leave early after announcing his departure.<\/span><\/p>\n Bruce added: \u201cI thought, \u2018Come on, you can trust me, I\u2019m not going to do a Dave Lee Travis [and] start badmouthing everybody\u2019, because I had a lovely time at the BBC. So it was all a bit\u2026 unnecessary. It\u2019s entirely within the BBC\u2019s right to ask me to step away a little early. But for the sake of 17 days, it seems a shame.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Bruce broke the news to his Radio 2 listeners back in February that he had been forced to leave the BBC earlier than intended.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n He tweeted: \u201cI will be presenting my last show on Radio 2 next Friday. I had intended fulfilling my contract until the end of March but the BBC has decided it wants me to leave earlier.
