Simu Liu wasn’t sure the movie would return to production in the height of the pandemic. <\/p>
Despite Marvel\u2019s various Disney Plus exploits, the pandemic has starved us from big screen releases for over a year. Luckily, Black Widow came to the rescue earlier this summer with her first solo venture, which will be followed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings<\/a>\u00a0in September.<\/p>\n As our Shang-Chi review<\/a> reveals, it\u2019s well worth the wait, but star Simu Liu has revealed he was worried the film wouldn\u2019t make it to cinemas at all \u2013 and the pandemic is to blame for his fears.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was hard for a lot of us,\u201d Liu told RadioTimes.com<\/a> in an exclusive interview. \u201cWe shut down our production in March, barely two months after we started shooting. There was definitely a time when we weren\u2019t sure if, you know, we would finish making this movie.\u201d<\/p>\n Shang-Chi was originally meant to hit cinemas in February 2021, but suffered several delays due to the ongoing pandemic. \u201cAs you know, it moved a bunch of times,\u201d Liu explained. \u201cBut, well, we\u2019re finally here. We\u2019re finally in the moment. And we\u2019re finally at a point where people are watching it, and reacting to it, which is fantastic.\u201d<\/p> He added: \u201cI think we knew that we were probably going to, but there was just so much uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, and how long it would last, and how devastating it would be, that we really didn\u2019t have any answers for a while.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then thankfully, we were kind of in a bit of a pocket in Australia, and things started to open up, and we were able to return to filming in July.\u201d<\/p>\n Liu praised the cast and crew for getting \u201cgetting the movie to the finish line without a single positive COVID test across all those weeks\u201d.<\/p>\n Co-star Meng\u2019er Zhang, who plays Shang-Chi\u2019s estranged sister Xialing, added, \u201cDuring that time, I missed everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n Luckily, it looks like the cast still managed to bond over the pandemic. \u201cWe managed to play some online Monopoly games together with Simu and Fala [Chen],\u201d Zhang revealed, \u201cand we still had a lot of fun, and we talked about our characters together.\u201d<\/p>\n Unlike Liu, Zhang \u201cnever had a doubt\u201d that they would finish the film. She said: \u201cWe were going to make the film, and make the world fall in love with it.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were taken very good care of by Marvel and Disney. We were just really excited to continue filming.
