While Mamma Mia! 3 is yet to be officially confirmed, writer-director Ol Parker revealed<\/a> that producer Judy Craymer \u201calways had plans for it to be a trilogy\u201d in December 2022.<\/p>\n In the second Mamma Mia!<\/a> film, one character was noticeably missing. Meryl Streep\u2019s character Donna Sheridan had died at some point between the first and second movie, but she made a brief return for the final song.<\/p>\n Hearts broke everywhere, but now there is hope for a return of the iconic Donna Sheridan.<\/p>\n Speaking to Vogue<\/a>, Craymer said she was \u201cchastised on social media\u201d for killing off Donna, but promised it wasn\u2019t on purpose.<\/p>\n \u201cShe [Streep] was hesitant about doing another film because she doesn\u2019t typically do sequels. But I know she loved coming back to film her scenes for Here We Go Again!,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n \u201cShe felt the love around her and the joy of reuniting with those people, so I think that made her more open to the prospect of a third.\u201d<\/p> Further in the interview, Meryl Streep revealed if there was plans \u201cto reincarnate Donna\u201d, she would be all over it.<\/p>\n The Hollywood icon said: \u201cI\u2019m up for anything. I\u2019ll have to schedule a knee scoping before we film, but if there\u2019s an idea that excites me, I\u2019m totally there. I told Judy if she could figure out a way to reincarnate Donna, I\u2019m into that.<\/p>\n \u201cOr it could be like in one of those soap operas where Donna comes back and reveals it was really her twin sister that died.\u201d<\/p>\n There are plenty of plot holes that need filling that could see Streep make a return. Craymer noted no one really knows what happened to Lily James<\/a>\u2018s version of Donna in the middle years, or what happens to Donna and Sam after the first film.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we have to bring a certain closure to these characters.
