With Mortal Kombat 1<\/a> launching today (19th September), it feels like the right time to release our interview with Derek Kirtzic from NeatherRealm Studios, who is the Senior Systems Designer on MK1.<\/p>\n In a branded booth at the Gamescom 2023<\/a> conference, Kirtzic told us about the decision to relaunch the series with this numerical reboot, rather than making the next game Mortal Kombat 12. We also spoke about the new Invasions mode, which starts with a fun tutorial set in Johnny Cage\u2019s house.<\/p>\n When we mentioned to Kirtzic that Cage\u2019s abode has the exact same OTT vibe as Ken\u2019s Mojo Dojo Casa House from the\u00a0 Barbie movie<\/a>\u00a0 \u2014 in fact, Cage has a lot of Kenergy himself \u2014 the developer took the comparison well.<\/p>\n As you can see in the fun little social clip below, Kirtzic even jokingly promised to give Ken a cameo \u2014 sorry, Kameo \u2014 in the game. And given that both MK1 and the Barbie film were produced under the Warner Bros umbrella, it doesn\u2019t actually feel\u00a0that\u00a0<\/em>outrageous a suggestion.<\/p>\n #MortalKombat1<\/a> launches today, but what about a #Barbie<\/a> crossover in future?
