{"id":37305,"date":"2023-09-28T17:18:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-28T15:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/?p=1898377"},"modified":"2023-09-28T17:39:43","modified_gmt":"2023-09-28T15:39:43","slug":"what-powers-do-ofcom-have-if-a-complaint-is-upheld","status":"publish","type":"rss_feed","link":"https:\/\/c01.purpledshub.com\/radiotimes\/rss_feed\/what-powers-do-ofcom-have-if-a-complaint-is-upheld\/","title":{"rendered":"What powers do Ofcom have if a complaint is upheld?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"rssexcerpt\"> Your guide to the regulatory body. <\/p><p class=\"rssauthor\">By Molly Moss\n                \t\t<\/p><p class=\"rssbyline\">Published: Thursday, 28 September 2023 at 15:18 PM<\/p><hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/><?xml version=\"1.0\" encoding=\"UTF-8\" standalone=\"yes\"?>\n<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-\/\/W3C\/\/DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional\/\/EN\" \"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/TR\/REC-html40\/loose.dtd\">\n<html><body> <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ofcom have confirmed they are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/current-affairs\/ofcom-gb-news-investigation-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">looking into complaints<\/a> <\/span>after Tuesday\u2019s episode of Dan Wootton Tonight, following Laurence Fox\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/current-affairs\/laurence-fox-suspended-gb-news-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">comments about political journalist Ava Evans.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The TV watchdog confirmed on Wednesday (27th September) that they\u2019d received \u201ca number of complaints\u201d after Lawrence spoke of the PoliticsJOE correspondent in widely condemned terms, describing her as \u201cpathetic and embarrassing\u201d to host <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/current-affairs\/dan-wootton-suspended-gb-news-laurence-fox-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dan Wootton<\/a> and asking: \u201cWho\u2019d want to shag that?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ofcom said in a statement: \u201cWe are assessing these complaints against our broadcast rules and will publish the outcome as quickly as possible.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But what is Ofcom and what powers does it hold?
