The second episode of The Long Shadow<\/a> featured a uniquely staged dramatisation of one of Peter Sutcliffe\u2019s attacks, with the entire scene being shown from the perspective of an emergency call-handler speaking with the victim, Marcella Claxton<\/a>, immediately after she had escaped.<\/p>\n The scene, which starred Doctor Who<\/a>\u2018s Ruth Madeley as the call-handler, featured no visuals of the attack, nor did it feature Marcella\u2019s side of the call \u2013 we simply saw the call-handler\u2019s reaction, until she put down the phone, took a breath, and then received another call from someone in need.<\/p>\n Speaking with RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press, Jasmine Lee-Jones<\/a>, who plays Marcella in the drama, explained why she felt this was a \u201creally clever decision on [writer] George [Kay]\u2019s part\u201d, saying that it \u201cdidn\u2019t sensationalise\u201d the harrowing moment.<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cIt\u2019s really interesting depicting trauma, because it didn\u2019t re-traumatise the story as it was. The thing that I find so heartbreaking, but also really moving, about that scene is that Ruth, the actress that played the police officer, she has to take a breath and then the phone rings again. It\u2019s that kind of thing that inspired me.\u201d<\/p>\n Two episodes of the true crime drama<\/a>, which charts the five-year police hunt for Sutcliffe, have now aired on ITV1, with five more still to air over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n The show was originally being produced under the working title The Yorkshire Ripper, but Kay explained<\/a> that he and his team changed the name after they found out it was \u201cdisrespectful\u201d to the victims.<\/p>\n He explained: \u201cAnd we had a very respectful approach as a team throughout, but even at the beginning we hadn\u2019t learned, which we did over the time of making the show, that that moniker, that name that people use to describe Peter Sutcliffe, which obviously began before anyone knew his real name but then continued after people knew his real name, was disrespectful in many ways.<\/p> \u201cEspecially to the victims\u2019 families, who certainly don\u2019t like that name being applied to Peter Sutcliffe, because it creates a sort of dark brand around a man who doesn\u2019t deserve that sort of attention, and especially not that verb.\u201d<\/p> ![\"Jasmine](\"https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/3\/2023\/09\/thelongshadowepisode210-da3a874.jpg?quality=90&resize=620%2C413\" "\\"the_long_shadow_episode_2_10\\"\/")
