It\u2019s an exciting time to be a fan of Coronation Street<\/a> \u2013 as according to boss Iain MacLeod, there\u2019s some really big scenes on the way.<\/p>\n

Speaking to press including RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press ahead of Super Soap Week, which will see Stephen Reid\u2019s (played by Todd Boyce) heinous crimes exposed, MacLeod hinted that the drama doesn\u2019t stop there \u2013 in fact, it will only get bigger and better from hereon.<\/p>\n

Teasing what\u2019s to come after next week\u2019s instalments, MacLeod said: \u201cIt\u2019s kind of like when you watch a movie\u2026 often the movie can end, and it\u2019s the end of the film. That\u2019s that and the protagonist walks off into the sunset as the credits roll.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut soap doesn\u2019t end. It goes on and you need to have the sequel to the movie in your heads before you\u2019ve even started telling the story of the first movie.\u201d<\/p>

He continued: \u201cYes, there are wide-ranging consequences to Stephen\u2019s exit, both emotionally, practically and criminally going forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith that, you need to know what the season 2 of the TV series is before you\u2019ve written season 1. So in the grand tradition of sequels, I hope what you\u2019re about to see is the Godfather: Part Two, which is one of the best sequels ever. I\u2019m confident we\u2019ve nailed this \u2013 the consequences with crimes of this scale are inevitably going to be huge.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be an exciting few months on Coronation Street.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking more about the consequences of Stephen\u2019s crimes, MacLeod added: \u201cIt\u2019s not just as simple as \u2018Stephen\u2019s done some bad stuff\u2019. It has ripple effects across the whole street. And that\u2019s just a lot more fun to watch, isn\u2019t it really? Otherwise, it doesn\u2019t feel like a soap anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom Carla, to Peter, to Audrey, indirectly to Sarah, who\u2019s trusted this guy, he\u2019s been like a mentor and her inspiration business wise, there\u2019s a big impact on her. Michael, who\u2019s been mentored by Steven recently, the impact on him.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s had all of these far reaching influences on all these characters, and we just loved the idea of all of those chickens coming home to roost in this big week.\u201d<\/p>\n
