All Creatures Great and Small returns for a fourth season Thursday 5th October, set in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in the Spring of 1940.<\/p>\n

The new season sees James and Helen married and worrying if James will be called up to serve in the RAF, which only amps up the anxiety as the couple are thinking of starting a family.<\/p>\n

As the series is set in 1940, England is in a particular dire situation as World War II has been ongoing for a year.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the series premiere, RadioTimes.com<\/a> caught up with Nicholas Ralph, who stars as James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small<\/a>, who revealed his character is feeling particularly \u201cbroody\u201d this season.<\/p>

Talking about James and Helen\u2019s relationship in season 4, Ralph said: \u201cSpeaking for James, he\u2019s always got this battle of heart and mind and we start off this season as newlyweds getting on very well. And we know at this time in history, people didn\u2019t wait around before starting a family, so he\u2019s definitely feeling broody.\u201d<\/p>\n

He notes that viewers will begin to see a \u201cconflict throughout the series\u201d due to social aspect of what is happening: \u201cJames has signed up, so that plays another part. We\u2019ll see that sort of conflict throughout the series.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u200cRachel Shenton, who stars as Helen Herriot in the drama, revealed that viewers see the \u201cunion\u201d between her character and James \u201cdeepen\u201d in season 4.<\/p>\n

She told RadioTimes.com<\/strong>: \u201cWe are at this point, it\u2019s 1940, and so there is an actual trajectory of a relationship and a marriage at that time, that you had children quite quickly. That\u2019s what people did. But they also can\u2019t ignore the fact that James has signed up and could get called up at any time.\u201d<\/p>\n
