We finally have a release date for the anticipated final season \u2013 but it’s coming in two parts. <\/p>

It\u2019s been a long time coming, but we finally have an official release date for Netflix<\/a>\u2018s hit royal-based drama The Crown<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Season 6 began filming over a year ago, and we now know that the upcoming episodes, which are set to be the show\u2019s last, will arrive in two parts on the streamer \u2013 with The Crown season 6 part 1 launching on 16th November<\/strong> and part 2 on 14th December<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The news was announced today (Monday 9th October) with a brand new teaser trailer.<\/p>\n\n<p>Alongside the announcement comes two new posters, one focusing on Elizabeth Debicki\u2019s Princess Diana and the other, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II.<\/p>\n<p>Much has been speculated about the new season of The Crown and what it will and won\u2019t delve into, further adding to the excitement for the series which is based on the British royal family.<\/p>\n<p>Season 6 is set to cover events from 1997 through to 2005, broadly spanning the period of time where Tony Blair (Bertie Carvel) was Prime Minister.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The sixth and final season of The Crown is coming. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/71Rc9ItlOI\">pic.twitter.com\/71Rc9ItlOI<\/a><\/p>\u2014 The Crown (@TheCrownNetflix) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheCrownNetflix\/status\/1711396400573952437?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 9, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"\/>\n<p>While the release date for the upcoming season has been confirmed, it\u2019s the first that the streamer has said of the season being released in two parts. The first part, according to the synopsis, will \u201cdepict a relationship blossoming between Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed before a fateful car journey has devastating consequences\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It continues: \u201cThe final chapter is told across six episodes (Part 2). Prince William tries to integrate back into life at Eton in the wake of his mother\u2019s death as the monarchy has to ride the wave of public opinion. As she reaches her Golden Jubilee, the Queen reflects on the future of the monarchy with the marriage of Charles and Camilla and the beginnings of a new Royal fairytale in William and Kate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As teased in some spoiler images, part 2 will also see Ed McVey and Luther Ford take on the roles of Prince William and Prince Harry, while\u00a0Meg Bellamy will join the cast as Kate Middleton.<\/p> <p>The upcoming run will focus on the lives of the royal family throughout the late 1990s and early 2000s, and will not feature or address <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/the-crown-prince-andrew-epstein-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prince Andrew\u2019s friendship with Jeffrey Epstein<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And, despite recent reports about rumblings that the Netflix drama may continue <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/the-crown-movie-spinoffs-netflix-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in the form of spin-offs<\/a>, we know that there aren\u2019t any concrete plans of the sort.<\/p>\n<p>In a report this past June, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thesun.co.uk\/tv\/22612921\/the-crown-future-final-netflix-episode\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Sun<\/a> said that the streamer hopes to keep the show going as a \u201cmovie, or perhaps a series of specials\u201d in the future, with the possibility of both prequels and sequels.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">RadioTimes.com<\/a> understands that The Sun\u2019s report is purely speculation at this point, and there are currently no solid proposals in place regarding any future spin-offs.<\/p>\n<p>We know that the final season is set to be the closest in timeline to where we are now, and will likely strike a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/crown-producer-diana-death-delicate-newsupdate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">powerful chord<\/a> for those who lived through the events that are set to be chronicled.<\/p>\n<p>Season 6 will unfold over the period following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/drama\/the-crown-season-5-timeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">season 5\u2019s focus on Prince Charles and Diana\u2019s divorce<\/a>, which will begin with the 1997 death of Princess Diana and continue on into the 21st century.<\/p> <div class=\"brightcove embed\"> <div class=\"embed__intrinsic\"> <div class=\"brightcove__player vjs-playlist-player-container\"> <video data-video-id=\"6338380151112\" data-account=\"69912529001\" data-player=\"ByeOf0VZEl\" data-embed=\"default\" data-application-id=\"\" controls=\"\" class=\"video-js\"> <\/video> <\/div> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<script src=\"\/\/players.brightcove.net\/69912529001\/ByeOf0VZEl_default\/index.min.js\"\/> <p><strong>The Crown season 6 will stream on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/gb\/title\/81478642\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Netflix<\/a> on 16 November and 14 December respectively.
