Here’s everything you need to know about the Big Brother rules. <\/p>

The new season of Big Brother<\/a> has launched, this time on ITV after its Channel 4 debut in the 2000s.<\/p>\n

A fresh batch of contestants<\/a> have already been introduced and the live feed<\/a> will officially return, and though the series has a reputation for being quite the vehicle for chaos, things might be a little different this time around.<\/p>\n

Not only does the reality feature a shiny new house<\/a> and brand new hosts<\/a>, but there also some updated rules the housemates will have to abide by to adhere to ITV\u2019s recently introduced\u00a0Duty of Care.<\/p>\n

Already the contestants have taken part in training before entering the house, covering a range of things to ensure their journey on the series goes smoothly.<\/p>\n

So, what rules will the Big Brother housemates need to follow? Read on for ITV\u2019s Duty of Care protocols for the Big Brother 2023 contestants and how they will be helped before, during and after the show.<\/p>

Big Brother 2023 rules<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Social media blackout<\/strong><\/p>\n

Similarly to Love Island<\/a>, Big Brother housemates will have to leave their social media accounts dormant.<\/p>\n

In the Duty of Care statement, ITV said: \u201cHousemates and their family and friends will be asked not to post any content on their individual social accounts for the duration of<\/span> their time in the House.\u00a0 A \u2018Social Media Blackout\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

ITV first introduced the blackout ahead of the Love Island\u2019s winter series in 2023.<\/p>\n

The housemates will undergo a series of background checks, which includes a study of their social media by an independent specialised service.<\/p>\n

Respect and inclusion training<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new Big Brother housemates will received respect and inclusion training and an \u201cextensive briefing\u201d from the Big Brother Senior team to \u201cprepare them for living in the House and to set out Big Brother\u2019s expectation for appropriate behaviour and language\u201d.<\/p>\n

Housemates will also be provided with and talked through the Housemate rules, which set out expectations and explain key aspects of<\/span> life in the Big Brother House.<\/p>\n

While in the House<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the contestants get used to life in the Big Brother House, mental health professionals will be available to them for ongoing support throughout their time on the show.<\/p>\n

The welfare of the housemates will be monitored 24 hours a day, and daily meetings take place to discuss welfare matters and responded to appropriately where required.<\/p>\n

After leaving the Big Brother House<\/strong><\/p>\n

Once the show is over and the housemates are back to their day-to-day lives, they will undergo \u201cbespoke training\u201d on how to deal with social media and press.<\/p>\n

They will also undergo a mandatory session with ITV\u2019s mental health professional immediately after a housemate leaves.<\/p>\n

Code of Conduct and Bullying and Harassment, Grievance and Whistleblowing Policies<\/strong><\/p>\n

Banijay UK, the production company behind Big Brother, has clear bullying and harassment, grievance and whistleblowing policies, and information about these is \u201cshared at an in-person briefing and copies are provided to everyone involved in the making of<\/span> Big Brother.\u201d<\/p>\n

Head of<\/span> welfare for Banijay UK Kym Langer said: \u201cThe welfare of<\/span> everyone involved in the making of<\/span> Big Brother is of<\/span> paramount importance to us, and the welfare protocols for Housemates delivers robust assessment of<\/span> suitability to participate, informed consent and support throughout the casting and filming process and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe protocols in place for the 2023 series have been care<\/span>fully considered, bringing together the experience of<\/span> ITV\u2019s compliance and duty<\/span> of<\/span> care<\/span> team together with the independent mental health prof<\/span>essionals we have engaged and our own in-house production, editorial, casting and support teams.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr Paul Litchfield, a chief medical of<\/span>ficer who independently reviews ITV\u2019s duty<\/span> of<\/span> care<\/span> protocols, said: \u201cThe measures applied to safeguard the mental health of<\/span> contributors to reality TV shows have evolved considerably over the past five years.<\/p>\n

\u201cITV has worked with the team at Banijay to share expertise and to ensure that current best practice is applied for the 2023 series of<\/span> Big Brother.\u201d<\/p>\n
