She became the third baker to leave the tent, following behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/keith-great-british-bake-off-2023-contestant\/\">Keith<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/amos-great-british-bake-off-2023-contestant\/\">Amos<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/dan-great-british-bake-off-2023-contestant\/\">Dan<\/a> also had a bit of a soggy bottom when it came to his stuffed crust pizza bread display, which wasn\u2019t baked all the way through.<\/p>\n<p>It was a good week for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/tasha-great-british-bake-off-2023-contestant\/\">Tasha<\/a>, however, as she bagged the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/great-british-bake-off-2023-star-baker\/\"> Star Baker<\/a> accolade for a second week in a row, but it was a very close call, with Josh impressing with his Tiger Mascot.<\/p>\n<p>Here, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/\">RadioTimes.com<\/a> columnist J\u00fcrgen Krauss shares his thoughts on Bread Week.<\/p>\n<p>You can watch J\u00fcrgen give his verdict below. Things happened I didn\u2019t expect and I\u2019m getting more excited about this bunch of bakers because it\u2019s more unpredictable than I thought. I thought that Dan would sail through pretty well as he did so far and I\u2019m not sure what happened. He might have had a stressful week or just a bad day, or maybe gone in with too much confidence. Things didn\u2019t quite work out and then Tasha was just amazing throughout.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Favourite bake<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In the Showstopper, there were quite a few interesting ones. Tasha with the Medusa \u2013 that was very impressive. I also liked Dana\u2019s picnic basket. A basket is not easy to make and it turned our [well], so kudos to her for that. There were a lot of of great ideas and a lot of great execution. There was also the consistent theme by Paul Hollywood of things being slightly under proved, which doesn\u2019t surprise me because of the time constraints.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Tasha's 'Medusa' Plaited Centrepiece Showstopper. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/GBBO?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#GBBO<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/X5N70w4eUn\">pic.twitter.com\/X5N70w4eUn<\/a><\/p>\u2014 British Bake Off (@BritishBakeOff) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BritishBakeOff\/status\/1711839698241343634?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">October 10, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"\/>\n<h2><strong>Least favourite<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>I would have to say Abbi\u2019s cottage bake didn\u2019t look the part unfortunately, Paul Hollywood mentioned that she had too little salt, and bread without salt tends to get very slack and that could be the reason for it.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Tip of the week<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Watch the dough rather than the clock. The dough will be subject to temperature in your kitchen, etc, and to your working, and that\u2019s more important to judge the proving from the dough rather than recipes as one hour. I know that publishers like to put timings in, but those timings when making bread depend hugely on the environment and how you work the dough.<\/p>\n<p>If you work the dough heavily that will warm up the dough and affect the proving time, especially if you use machines. If you work it by hand, the dough might stay cooler but it will take a bit longer to prove. Similarly if the kitchen is 90 degrees \u2013 I found that about Irish kitchens, for example \u2013 it will take maybe an hour longer to prove than in the kitchen with 22 degrees.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>J\u00fcrgen answers\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Can Dan come back from this bad week?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think he will brush up. I think that\u2019s absolutely in his character. I was also surprised with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/entertainment\/matty-great-british-bake-off-2023-contestant\/\">Matty<\/a>. I thought he did very well in Bread Week, so I\u2019m looking forward to seeing more of his baking. I would have loved to see more of Abbi \u2013 I\u2019m really sad she\u2019s gone but things didn\u2019t quite work out.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasha won Star Baker for the second week in a row \u2013 do you spot a winner?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If I were to predict on the basis of the number of Star Bakes, there\u2019s quite a few semi-finalists that went out having had three Star Bakers or more. At this point with this lot, I\u2019m really at a loss to predict the winner. The cottage loaf would be an ideal one but the classical one just with white flour. Get every Bake Off class to do a cottage loaf, or a croissant or a baguette. And then you have a handle on the individual bakers as well as on the class year-on-year. I think that could be interesting.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>A week in the life of J\u00fcrgen<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This week was absolutely crazy. The last 10 days, I was on my US book tour and I managed to fill all that free time for relaxing with meeting people from the music scene and going to multiple museums.<\/p>\n<p>So the last seven days I spent most of the time in New York. I was based in lower Manhattan, but I had a chance to go to Times Square and dip into Central Park and some museums there \u2013 Jewish Museum, Design Museum. It was really amazing. I enjoyed that.<\/p>\n<p>I met musicians and it seemed that they knew some of the musicians I knew here in Britain. It feels like my network in baking and music expanded! I met with bakers in Baltimore as well as in New York.
