Young\u2019s Rocky co-star Sylvester Stallone led tributes to the star. <\/p>
Oscar-nominated actor Burt Young, who was best known for his role in the Rocky movies, has died at the age of 83, his family have confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n Young\u2019s death \u2013 which occurred on October 8th in Los Angeles \u2013 was confirmed by his daughter, Anne Morea Steingieser, to the New York Times<\/a>, who first reported his death on Wednesday (18th October). No cause of death was given.<\/p>\n Young\u2019s manager, Lynda Bensky, said in a statement given to <\/span>People<\/span><\/a> magazine: \u201cBurt was an actor of tremendous emotional range.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n She continued: \u201cHe could make you cry and he could scare you to death. But the real pathos that I experienced was the poignancy of his soul. That\u2019s where it came from.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n Young made his on-camera debut in a 1969 episode of The Doctors and went on to enjoy a prolific career of more than 160 film and TV credits, portraying mostly tough-guy characters.<\/span><\/p>\n However, it was for his role as Paulie, the butcher friend of Rocky Balboa (<\/span>played by Sylvester Stallone<\/a><\/span>) and brother of Adrian (Talia Shire), that he remains best known.<\/span><\/p>\n Young received an Oscar nomination for his performance as Paulie in the first Rocky film (1976) \u2013 a part he reprised in every Rocky movie up until Rocky Balboa in 2006.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Other film credits included<\/span> The Pope of Greenwich Village, Once Upon a Time in America and Chinatown, while TV guest appearances included M*A*S*H*, The Rockford Files, Texas Ranger, and Law & Order.<\/span><\/p>\n Tributes have been flooding in on social media for the late star, with Sylvester Stallone leading the tributes to his late Rocky co-star.<\/span><\/p>\n Stallone shared an image of <\/span>him and Young on set of the boxing film on Instagram,<\/a> alongside the caption:<\/span> \u201cTo my Dear Friend, BURT YOUNG, you were an incredible man\u2019s and artist, I and the World will miss you very much\u2026RIP.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n It is with great sadness I share the news of actor, Burt Young passing.
