The first film adaptation of the hit video game series has just landed in UK cinemas. <\/p>

The first film adaptation of hit video game series Five Nights at Freddy<\/a>\u2018s has been a long time in the making \u2013 and now it\u2019s finally arrived in UK cinemas.<\/p>\n

The film stars The Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson as a security guard who discovers that the abandoned novelty restaurant where he\u2019s working night shifts holds one or two terrifying secrets, in the form of some malicious animatronic creatures.<\/p>\n

The film is directed by Emma Tammi and produced by Jason Blum, and the latter hopes that after the rather convoluted process of getting the film to the screen, it can now usher in a whole new big-screen horror franchise.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a great rapport with Scott [Cawthon, game creator],\u201d he told RadioTimes.com<\/a> during an exclusive interview ahead of release. \u201cAnd hopefully if the movie does perform the way I think it will perform, we\u2019ll get to make more of these movies.<\/p>

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to that \u2013 and the next ones won\u2019t take as long, they\u2019ll be a lot easier because we now have a process in place that everybody is comfortable with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before you go and see the new film, you might be wondering if it\u2019s suitable for younger audience members \u2013 read everything you need to know about its age rating in the UK.<\/p>\n

Five Nights at Freddy\u2019s age rating: What certificate is the horror film?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the UK, the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has given the film a 15 certificate<\/strong> \u2013 meaning that only those aged 15 and above are permitted to see it.<\/p>\n

The BBFC website cites strong threat and violence in the film, with a more detailed description reading: \u201cScenes of strong, sustained threat and violence accompany an unsettling theme of child abduction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of the examples given of violence include \u201cstabbings, slashings with bladed instruments and an undetailed decapitation\u201d while the guidelines also state that: \u201cPeople are menaced by robotic machines designed in the form of animals and children who behave in a strange manner.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the BBFC also notes \u201cmild bad language\u201d and \u201creferences to mental illness\u201d.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, in the US the film has been given the more lenient PG-13<\/strong> rating, which means that across the Atlantic anyone over the age of 13 can see it, and those under that age can still go if accompanied by an adult.<\/p>
