He will portray Bottom at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon from Tuesday 30th January through to Saturday 30th March.<\/p>\n
The Ghosts<\/a> star and co-writer said he \u201ccouldn\u2019t be more excited\u201d to join the cast at the RSC.<\/p>\n He continued: \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted to be part of a Shakespeare production and I\u2019ve been hoping to return to the stage for quite some time too, so to be able to combine those two ambitions in one of the great ensemble comedies is a (midsummer night\u2019s) dream come true.<\/p> \u201cBottom is, of course, an absolute treat of a role, so I can\u2019t wait to get started.\u201d<\/p>\n Casting for the rest of play is yet to be announced.<\/p>\n Director Eleanor Rhode said of Baynton\u2019s casting: \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to be returning to the RSC to direct A Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream. It\u2019s a play that made a big impact on me from a young age, and I\u2019m excited to share it with a new generation of theatre-goers.<\/p>\n \u201cMathew Baynton is going to be an incredible Bottom \u2013 I\u2019ve loved his work for years, and so it\u2019s a real joy to be able to collaborate with him on bringing this magical play to life.\u201d<\/p>\n Baynton is currently starring as the beloved poet Thomas Thorne in the fifth and final season of BBC\u2019s Ghosts.<\/p>\n It was announced in March of this year that Ghosts would end after season 5.<\/p>\n In a statement from Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, the creators said: \u201cAfter five incredible years haunting the halls of Button House, we have decided that the time is right to let our beloved sitcom Ghosts rest in peace.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201c\u2026We could never have imagined the reception the show has enjoyed, or the fun we have had making it, and we would like to thank our amazing cast and crew as well as everyone at BBC Comedy, BBC One and Monumental Television for their tireless support.<\/p>\n \u201cBut most of all we\u2019d like to thank everyone who watches.
