They\u2019d looked at the landscape and gone, \u2018There is an appetite for this show. It has a huge loyal audience that have helped it to grow and they want more.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cAnd there are so many of the elements of the show that people know and love that are still there. They\u2019ve kept those things in place, so the heart of the show remains. It really honours what\u2019s gone before.\u201d<\/p>\n But as well as staying true to what people like and expect from Shetland, O\u2019Donnell said the creative team have been \u201cbrave\u201d in making \u201creally clever decisions\u201d, such as bringing in Ashley Jensen as DI Ruth Calder, which \u201copens the whole thing back up again\u201d.<\/p>\n She added: \u201cI think they\u2019ve really hit the sweet spot. You get the show that you\u2019ve known and loved, characters that you know really well, the beautiful landscapes, the grisly storylines and all the characters that come with that, and then you get this woman who brings a fresh energy, a different flavour profile.<\/p> \n
