The Smiths feature prominently in the new film \u2013\u00a0with 11 of their songs included, from How Soon Is Now? to This Charming Man. <\/p>

David Fincher\u2019s latest film, The Killer<\/a>, arrives on Netflix this weekend (Friday 10th November) following a brief theatrical run.<\/p>\n

The film \u2013 which cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt urged fans<\/a> to see in a cinema rather than on streaming \u2013 stars Michael Fassbender as an assassin who embarks on a brutal killing spree to avenge an attack on his girlfriend.<\/p>\n

Throughout the movie, we follow several of the killer\u2019s rituals as he methodically goes about his grisly business, and one of these involves repeatedly listening to music on his headphones.<\/p>\n

Specifically, he is shown to have a penchant for The Smiths, and several of the Morrissey-led band\u2019s hits therefore feature in the soundtrack, including How Soon is Now?, Heaven Knows I\u2019m Miserable Now and This Charming Man.<\/p>

Interestingly, Fincher explained in an interview with\u00a0IndieWire<\/a> that he only had the idea to use so many of the Manchester group\u2019s songs during post-production \u2013 partly because he was determined to use How Soon Is Now? one way or another.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think that there\u2019s a library of music by recording artists that have as much sardonic nature and wit simultaneously [as The Smiths\u2019],\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we don\u2019t get an awful lot of access to who this guy is. I thought through his mixtape it would be amusing, that that would be our window into him.\u201d<\/p>\n
