The returning showrunner says the second and third instalments will be “nuts”. <\/p>

Returning showrunner Russell T Davies has teased that two of the three upcoming Doctor Who<\/a> 60th anniversary specials will be \u201cdark\u201d and \u201cweird\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a Q&A after a press screening of the first special The Star Beast, he revealed that the second and third of the three episodes will go to some interesting places.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next one is called Wild Blue Yonder, where the TARDIS goes further than ever before \u2013 and it\u2019s weird, the next one, it\u2019s kind of scary,\u201d he said.<\/p>

He explained that he wanted the first of the specials to be more of a family-friendly offering, \u201clike a bank holiday film\u201d, but that there would be some more unconventional things in store thereafter.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second one\u2026 darker and weird,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s not super scary, it\u2019s just weird. It\u2019s genuinely weird, it\u2019s really nice \u2013 that stretched the whole design team as to how to make it and how to get this stuff on screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, he said that the third instalment, which is titled The Giggle, will see everything come to a climax.<\/p>\n

\u201c[It\u2019s] Neil Patrick Harris as The Toymaker, who was an old enemy from the 1960s, coming back,\u201d he said. \u201cThat one\u2019s wild, that one\u2019s scary, that\u2019s one nuts \u2013 it\u2019s a completely mad adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThat\u2019s frightening, and revolutionary things happen in it. And obviously, sadly, it\u2019s not giving anything away to say it\u2019s goodbye to David Tennant and in comes Ncuti Gatwa.\u201d<\/p>\n
The specials will start airing later this month, with The Star Beast debuting on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Saturday 25th November, and the remaining two episodes following in subsequent weeks.<\/p>\n
All three episodes will see beloved stars David Tennant and Catherine Tate return to the show, while other cast members include Neil Patrick Harris as The Toymaker, Yasmin Finney as Rose Noble and Miriam Margolyes as the voice of Beep the Meep.<\/p>
