The new show goes behind the scenes of the man that many knew and loved over his film career to explore a side of the actor that almost nobody got to see, his childhood and the events that shaped him into being one of the most famous faces on screen.<\/p>\n
But notoriously, as fans of Grant will know, the actor kept his private life very private \u2013 meaning that Archie digs into areas that many will not be familiar with.<\/p>\n
The series will delve into his childhood as Archibald Alexander Leach, his troubled upbringing and how the deceitful lie concealed about his mother\u2019s true whereabouts went on to shape him.<\/p>\n
The story is a sad one, as young Archie was told his mother had died \u2013 when, actually, she had been placed in a mental health institution<\/a> by his father, and not told about the fact until he was an adult.<\/p> Serving as one of the executive producers on the drama alongside the daughter she shared with Cary, Dyan Cannon spoke to RadioTimes.com<\/a> and other press about the show, and whether her ex-husband would like Archie.<\/p>\n She admitted: \u201cI don\u2019t think he\u2019d like it \u2013 it\u2019s much too public about his feelings.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was far more private, he didn\u2019t give out a lot, and when he did\u2026 the only things he wrote about with great abandon was the LSD. He wrote that for Ladies\u2019 Home Journal, can you imagine?\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cDon\u2019t try and figure him out, because it does not make sense. You cannot make sense out of nonsense, so I don\u2019t think he\u2019d like that.\u201d<\/p>\n The series charts Grant\u2019s budding relationship with Cannon, who was 33 years his junior and repeatedly turned down Grant\u2019s charms.<\/p>\n Eventually, the pair wed in 1965 and had a daughter, Jennifer, who is Grant\u2019s only child.<\/p>\n Starring as Grant in the show is Jason Isaacs, who initially didn\u2019t have the warmest reaction to news that he was in line the part, he revealed when speaking to Radio Times magazine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cWhen I was offered the role, I thought I ought to run a million miles in the other direction. Cary Grant was dazzlingly suave, a lady-killer and beloved by the entire world.<\/p>\n \u201cThen I read the script and realised this was about Archie Leach, not Cary Grant. It\u2019s about a damaged man, who created an avatar so people couldn\u2019t see how damaged he was.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Isaacs also said: \u201cHe was one of the most famous people in the world. He played the perfect man, leading the perfect life. Many of us see people with lives that seem perfect, but none of them are.
