Thirteen is set to regenerate next year, with fans hoping Whittaker takes on Star Wars next. <\/p>

Though Jodie Whittaker is leaving Doctor Who<\/a>, she isn\u2019t done playing the Time Lord just yet.<\/p>\n

Doctor Who<\/a>\u2018s thirteenth series, which will also be showrunner Chris Chibnall\u2019s last, is set to air later in 2021. It will consist of six regular episodes \u2013 five fewer than we\u2019re used to \u2013 followed by three feature-length specials that will air in 2022.<\/p>\n

In an interview with the The Sunday Times<\/a>, Whittaker opened up about what it\u2019s like to be filming her final season, and what she\u2019s looking forward to once production wraps.<\/p>

\u201cPlaying the Doctor taps into the joy of childhood energy,\u201d she said, after revealing a usual day on set starts at 6:15am. \u201cEveryone has played the role differently. I\u2019ve enjoyed every minute of it, being surrounded by the best creatives, who\u2019ve become my mates. I have never, ever got bored.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following the news of their exit, Chibnall and Whittaker said it was the plan all along, revealing they had made a pact to bow out after three seasons from the very beginning.<\/p>\n

Whittaker also explained that she is \u201clooking forward to exploring different characters and genres\u201d once her time in the TARDIS officially comes to a close.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no news as yet on what such characters and genres could be, but there is one role fans are hoping Whittaker is cast in: Star Wars: The High Republic<\/a>\u2018s Avar Kriss.<\/p>\n

The Jedi has yet to make her big screen debut, having only appeared in the\u00a0High Republic comics, but a fan campaign to cast Whittaker as Avar Kriss<\/a> in a possible live-action is already in full swing.<\/p>\n
