One addition was incredibly important to her \u2013 the inclusion of Aja Naomi King\u2019s character Harriet and her fight for Civil Rights.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about why that change was so important, Larson exclusively told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/\">RadioTimes.com<\/a>: \u201c<span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That was a deviation from the novel but it was one that felt very clear to all of us. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cBooks and TV and movies are just very different mediums in terms of what you are showing and what you are not showing, so with a book you can be very much in someone\u2019s head, and in their point of view, you\u2019re not imagining all of the people in the world. But with this show, it\u2019s really important to understand the context of the space that we\u2019re living in.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"image-handler__container image-handler__container--aspect\" It\u2019s one of my favourite parts of the show, to be honest. She just handles it so well. And it\u2019s very, very moving to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Larson also felt the importance of doing the character of Elizabeth justice, especially after reading <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.co.uk\/Lessons-Chemistry-Debut-Bonnie-Garmus-ebook\/dp\/B099JC5HQK?tag=radtim0b-21&amp;ascsubtag=radiotimes-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"sponsored noopener noreferrer\">Bonnie Garmus\u2019s bestselling novel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI felt like Elizabeth was one of the greatest characters, it\u2019s just an honour and a gift, and so I take that very seriously,\u201d Larson explained.<\/span><\/p> <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s a big responsibility, and so I put everything into it that I could. I mean, spending two years developing something, you become very intimate with it, it became just a very long prep, maybe the longest prep I\u2019ve ever done for something.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAnd it\u2019s like with anything like this, you go through the first maybe week or two, it just feels like, \u2018Oh, I must not be doing this good enough.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou know, there\u2019s this sense of trying to find it and then you hit a point where it starts to feel like it makes sense and it\u2019s inhabited, and then it\u2019s over. It\u2019s like, right when you start to get it is when the job is done.
