The latest series from the Williams brothers arrives this week on BBC One and iPlayer, telling the story of a major drug theft gone horribly wrong.<\/p>\n

Boat Story<\/a> sees two strangers \u2013 Janet (Daisy Haggard) and Samuel (Paterson Joseph) \u2013 discover a shipwreck containing two dead men and a whole load of cocaine during a morning walk along the beach.<\/p>\n

They snatch the substance, hoping to transform their lives forever by selling it on \u2013 but alas, things take a dark turn when the true owner makes it his mission to trace the missing delivery.<\/p>\n

The story unfolds in a fictional coastal town called Applebury, with the creators explaining that no single place in England \u201coffered absolutely everything that you see in this show\u201d.<\/p>\n

As a result, Boat Story was filmed in several locations \u2013 read on for an overview.<\/p>\n

Much of the filming for Boat Story took place in Yorkshire<\/strong>, with co-creator Jack Williams mentioning Leeds and York as particularly useful locations for the shoot, which demanded versatility from its setting.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had pictures in our mind of where it took place,\u201d he told press. \u201cWe wanted somewhere by the coast, but it wasn\u2019t going to be the depiction of a traditional British TV coastal detective drama.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started to consider how to get a touch of that, but also somewhere urban that can also be rural, and we looked at a lot of different places.\u201d<\/p>\n

Williams continued: \u201cWe started from the coast and began working back, and as we looked around Yorkshire \u2013 and particularly Leeds and York \u2013 we found it offered a massive variety of locations to stitch together.\u201d<\/p>\n

Local publications noted filming taking place at Redcar Beach (via Teesside Gazette<\/a>) and in Selby (via Yorkshire Live<\/a>) in January and February of this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wanted something that felt interesting and a little different to what we\u2019ve seen before. There is no town in England that offered absolutely everything that you see in this show,\u201d added Williams.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s a slightly storybook version of it \u2013 which, again, felt on point thematically with what we\u2019re trying to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haggard and Joseph had warm words for the region, describing it as a \u201cbeautiful\u201d place, although for the Back to Life<\/a> creator it represented her first experience of working away from home \u2013 and being away from her kids was tough.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne night I did a night shoot and I was going to wake up in the morning obviously and travel back, but I thought I could make the school run,\u201d she told RadioTimes.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I did a mad thing \u2013 I travelled through the night in a car to get there having done a night shoot, to then go, \u2018Right, let\u2019s do the school run,\u2019 [to] surprise them and take them to school.\u201d<\/p>\n

Haggard laughed: \u201cFour days later, when I still felt jet lagged, I slightly regretted that.\u201d<\/p>
