Emerald Fennell\u2019s second feature, Saltburn, opened in UK cinemas over the weekend \u2013 and, based on box office takings so far, it looks like the actor-turned-writer\/director has another hit on her hands.<\/p>\n

The film follows Barry Keoghan\u2019s Oliver Quick, an outcast at Oxford who is invited to spend the summer at the estate of his popular classmate Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), one of the few fellow students who is sympathetic to him.<\/p>\n

While at Saltburn, Oliver gets to know Felix\u2019s eccentric, aristocratic family, including his parents Elsbeth (Rosamund Pike) and James (Richard E Grant), and his sister Venetia (Alison Oliver) \u2013 and it slowly emerges that he is not quite who he seems.<\/p>\n

An increasingly shocking<\/a> sequence of events follows, which ends up having major repercussions for the whole Catton family \u2013 read on for a recap and explanation of everything that happens in the Saltburn ending.<\/p>

The relationship between Felix and Oliver starts to go sour when the latter is seen performing oral sex on Venetia, but the first big twist happens when Felix works out that Oliver is not quite who he has been claiming to be.<\/p>\n
Rather than being the poor only child of a drug-addict mother and dead father, it transpires that he is from a comfortable middle-class family \u2013 with Felix driving his friend to visit them for his birthday.<\/p>\n
Oliver is clearly not happy that his deception has been discovered, and things next come to a head that night at a decadent Midsummer Night\u2019s Dream-themed birthday party that the Catton family has decided to hold for Oliver at the estate.<\/p>\n
During the revelry, Felix follows Oliver into a maze and attempts to mend their friendship to no avail, before Felix\u2019s dead body is found in the maze the next morning.<\/p>\n
After a rather bizarre scene in which Oliver essentially has sex with Felix\u2019s grave, we see the Catton family in mourning and Felix\u2019s cousin Farleigh questions why Oliver is still staying at Saltburn.<\/p>\n
However, Oliver manages to turn things in his favour by suggesting that Farleigh\u2019s drug habit had contributed to Felix\u2019s death, and so it is instead the cousin who is sent away from the estate, with Oliver staying on.<\/p>\n
