Jamie Bernstein says that complaints about Bradley Cooper’s prosthetic nose in Maestro are “a big pile of nonsense”. <\/p>
When the first trailer for Maestro<\/a> was unveiled back in August, it was met with something of a backlash \u2013 with some viewers arguing that the large prosthetic nose worn by Bradley Cooper to play Leonard Bernstein fuelled anti-Semitic stereotypes.<\/p>\n Shortly after the complaints, Bernstein\u2019s family members put out a statement<\/a> unequivocally defending Cooper\u2019s choice and saying that \u201cit breaks our hearts to see any misrepresentations or misunderstandings of his efforts\u201d.<\/p>\n The film has now been released in UK cinemas \u2013 before a Netflix release just in time for Christmas \u2013 and ahead of the launch, RadioTimes.com<\/a> asked Bernstein\u2019s daughters Jamie and Nina whether they were surprised by the initial criticisms.<\/p> \u201cYou know, trollers gonna troll,\u201d Jamie replied. \u201cThere\u2019s always going to be some persnickety person out there who thinks they\u2019re being really righteous and deservedly aggrieved, and it\u2019s just all a big pile of nonsense.\u201d<\/p>\n She added: \u201cAnd what we noticed just a week or two ago, when we were at Bradley\u2019s house\u2026 we looked at him and he has a pretty prominent nose! They didn\u2019t build it up [that much].\u201d<\/p>\n Jamie also revealed that the nose had another function \u2013 it doubled as a device to help Cooper master her father\u2019s unique speaking voice.<\/p>\n \u201cWe just found out that Kazu Hiro, who did the prosthetics, inserted a nose plug which doesn\u2019t change the outer shape of the nose but changes the nasal passage shape so that Bradley\u2019s voice would sound different,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n
