In fact, the BBC has confirmed the acclaimed series will be returning for a second run \u2013 which is hardly surprising, considering the first became one of the top five most watched new dramas in the UK this year.<\/p>\n
The show received plenty of praise<\/a> from audiences and critics alike, both for how it tackled the true story<\/a> behind the \u2018crime of the century\u2019 and the performances of its stellar cast<\/a>.<\/p> The broadcaster has confirmed the detective trio who led last season\u2019s investigation will be back, with Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer and Emun Elliott returning as Brian Boyce, Nicki Jennings and Tony Brightwell respectively.<\/p>\n Tom Cullen (John Palmer), Stefanie Martini (Marnie Palmer) and Sam Spruell (Charlie Miller) are also set to appear.<\/p>\n It\u2019s unclear at this stage whether we\u2019ll see the likes of Dominic Cooper, Jack Lowden, Adam Nagaitis, Frankie Wilson and Dorothy Atkinson, though, following their characters\u2019 convictions at the end<\/a> of season 1.<\/p>\n As well as confirming the series\u2019s return, the BBC also released a synopsis teasing what\u2019s to come for the detectives. \u201cFollowing the conviction of some of those involved in the theft and handling of the Brink\u2019s-Mat gold, the police realised that those criminals only ever had half of it,\u201d it revealed.<\/p>\n As robber Kenneth Noye (Lowden) taunted them in the finale, a big chunk of the gold hadn\u2019t been recovered, despite the detectives\u2019 best efforts.<\/p>\n Writer and executive producer Neil Forsyth said in a statement: \u201cI am delighted that we have been given the opportunity to tell the rest of the Brink\u2019s-Mat story, which sees the consequences of the robbery and its aftermath grow only more surprising, dramatic and far-reaching, both in Britain and around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n Read more:<\/strong><\/p>\n Lindsay Salt, director of BBC Drama, added: \u201cWe\u2019re immensely proud to partner with Neil Forsyth and the team to continue the story of The Gold.<\/p>\n \u201cMillions of viewers across the UK were enthralled with its gripping and confident exploration of the fallout from the notorious Brink\u2019s-Mat robbery and, as we saw, there\u2019s still so much more left for DCS Boyce and the team to uncover.\u201d<\/p>\n Details of when the six part season will be released are yet to be confirmed.<\/p> ![\"Edwyn](\"https:\/\/images.immediate.co.uk\/production\/volatile\/sites\/3\/2023\/02\/417821-7210d24.jpg?quality=90&resize=619%2C413\" "\\"417821,The")
