The Christmas classic turns 20 this year. <\/p>

A new Christmas film written by Richard Curtis has just arrived on Sky Cinema \u2013 with Genie serving as a modern adaptation of his own 1991 TV movie Bernard and the Genie, which starred Alan Cumming and Lenny Henry.<\/span><\/p>\n

But this year also marks the 20-year anniversary of Curtis\u2019s most enduring contribution to the Christmas film canon: Love Actually.<\/p>\n

So, when RadioTimes.com<\/a> spoke exclusively to the prolific writer about his latest film, we couldn\u2019t help but ask how he looks back on that Yuletide classic \u2013 and whether he often revisits it himself.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t watch Love Actually very often,\u201d he replied. \u201cAnd when you do watch your old movies, it\u2019s funny how they\u2019re like just a very expensive diary. So I\u2019d watch it and think \u2018Oh my god, we ran out of time that day, and Emma Thompson ticked me off for the fact she didn\u2019t know the names of her own children\u2019, and stuff like that.<\/p>

\u201cBut so it\u2019s always quite sweet. And when I watch the Genie movie, I\u2019m kind of trying hard to focus on the fact that it\u2019s Bernard and the Genie but I\u2019m also seeing Paapa [Essiedu] and Melissa [McCarthy] having a good time in a room!\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that he considered the continued success of Love Actually to be \u201cjust a strange bit of luck\u201d, but admitted that the idea of rewatchability is one of the things that appeals to him about making Christmas films.<\/p>\n
