The much-loved Bernard Cribbins died last year at the age of 93<\/a> but made a posthumous appearance at the conclusion of Wild Blue Yonder<\/a> as Wilfred.<\/p>\n The scene had been filmed before Cribbins\u2019s death and he was due to appear in further scenes before the actor\u2019s passing.<\/p>\n In The Giggle, it was revealed that Wilf was taken to safety<\/a> by UNIT at the request of his granddaughter Donna Noble (Catherine Tate).<\/p>\n Now, speaking on the in-vision commentary for The Giggle<\/a>, Russell T Davies has revealed: \u201cI actually wrote a version in which [the Doctor] discussed his passing.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was immensely sad, it was beautiful, and it was very much a reaction to what had literally just happened, \u2019cause it felt very, very strange so I felt like we had to acknowledge it.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can imagine how, tonally, it fitted into this \u2013 remembering the past and coming to terms with those we\u2019ve lost\u2026<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then Phil, my learned friend Phil Collinson, just went \u2018Are you mad? Of course, he\u2019s alive off-camera, of course, he\u2019s still here, he\u2019s alive forever \u2013 around the corner.\u2019 And I just went, \u2018You\u2019re so right\u2019.\u201d<\/p> This late interjection from Phil Collinson meant that Wilfred had a last-minute reprieve.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019d kind of signed off on it almost,\u201d noted Davies, \u201cand [Phil] just went, stop stop stop!
