From a Kool & the Gang hit to the Friends theme tune \u2013\u00a0here are all the tracks featured in the new Julia Roberts and Ethan Hawke film. <\/p>
Leave the World Behind \u2013 the new Netflix<\/a> thriller starring Julia Roberts<\/a>, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali \u2013 ends<\/a> with one of the most iconic pieces of film and TV music of all time: The Rembrandts\u2019 hit I\u2019ll Be There for You, more commonly known as the Friends<\/a> theme tune.<\/p>\n But while that song will be extremely familiar to most viewers, the same is not true for the rest of the music in the film, and director Sam Esmail explained in the press notes that he\u2019s generally a \u201cstrong believer in trying to use music that hasn\u2019t been used in a lot of film and TV\u201d.<\/p>\n He said: \u201cI do think people make associations, and I don\u2019t want that to ever interfere or complicate what the scene\u2019s about or what the viewer is feeling as they\u2019re watching the scene.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you pick a song like that, it\u2019s really going to end up being another character in the scene.\u201d<\/p>\n Esmail added that he chose the song Too Close by\u00a0R&B\u00a0group\u00a0Next for one pivotal scene because he wanted to pick a song that the characters could dance to but that wasn\u2019t overused.<\/p>\n \u201cI just thought it was really funny and sweet at the same time,\u201d he said of the song. \u201cThat scene goes from lighthearted and playful to sad and dark within a matter of a minute, so the song had to do a lot of heavy lifting.\u201d<\/p> Meanwhile, the film also includes an original score composed by Mac Quayle, which is unique in that it only utilises nine notes, something Quayle said was inspired by a method put forward by French composer Olivier Messiaen relating to what are now called \u2018Messiaen modes\u2019.<\/p>\n \u201cI started playing around with them and I found that Mode 3, which is essentially a scale, was producing a really interesting harmonic feeling,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n \u201cAnd I got this idea that I might do the entire film in this one mode\u2026 I didn\u2019t know if it would carry me through the entire film, but it did.\u201d<\/p>\n Read on for the full list of songs featured in Leave the World Behind.<\/p>\n The full list of songs featured in the film is below:<\/p>\nLeave the World Behind soundtrack<\/strong><\/h2>\n
