The Alone in the Dark remake has unfortunately been met with another delay, which has pushed the release date further back still \u2013 leaving us to replay the demo again and pre-order the game while we wait.<\/p>\n
The Alone in the Dark remake was first teased by THQ Nordic back in 2022, and in August 2023 we got our first serious look at the game, as two big stars<\/a> who would be featuring in the reboot were revealed.<\/p>\n In a world with so many remakes, such as Resident Evil 4<\/a> and Dead Space<\/a>, it feels right that we\u2019ll be revisiting the seminal horror game that these games can trace their lineage back to.<\/p>\n Despite being a terrific game to this day, it can be hard to get into without a pair of rose-tinted glasses, as the gameplay and visuals have not aged quite as well as our fond memories.<\/p>\n But, despite the delay, there are still plenty of games coming in 2023 and beyond<\/a> to keep us busy.<\/p>\n Alone in the Dark will be released on 20th March 2024<\/b>.<\/p>\n Originally slated for October 2023, there were fears that the game might get lost among the huge number of great titles that were released then \u2013 especially fellow horror game Alan Wake 2<\/a> \u2013 but delays have saved Alone in the Dark from such a fate.<\/p>\n By the time the game launches, it will have been a whopping 32 years since the original came out for MS-DOS, making it older than many of our dear readers!<\/p>\n Yes<\/strong>, there is an Alone in the Dark demo! The developers are calling it a \u2018playable prologue\u2019, and it\u2019s actually available to try out right now.<\/p>\n The playable prologue is titled Grace and lasts between 15 and 20 minutes.<\/p>\n You can download it from Steam<\/a>, the PlayStation Store<\/a> or the Xbox Store<\/a><\/p>\n Wondering how to get the demo? There\u2019s no word on last-generation systems receiving a port, but it hasn\u2019t been outright denied.<\/p>\n There is every possibility the game could receive a similar treatment to Hogwarts: Legacy, with adjustments made to the levels and graphics settings to give it a chance to run on the older machines.<\/p>\n But as time goes on, the end of the cross-generation period draws ever nearer, so we will see less and less of this, especially if a lot of the budget went to securing such great actors!<\/p>\n Alone in the Dark features the same setting, characters and survival horror action as the original, but reimagines them with a new and unique storyline.<\/p>\n Emily Hartwood, played by BAFTA winner Jodie Comer<\/a>, is still compelled to visit Derceto after receiving an alarming letter from her uncle, Jeremy Hartwood.<\/p>\n This time, Jeremy is present in the game as one of the main characters, rather than already having met his unfortunate end.<\/p>\n Emily enlists private investigator Edward Carnby (Stranger Things<\/a> favourite David Harbour<\/a>) to accompany her and get to the bottom of the mystery that is the Hartwood curse.<\/p>\n Perhaps the most notable difference is the ability to play through the story either as Emily Hartwood or Edward Carnby, encouraging multiple playthroughs to truly understand the horrible events surrounding Derceto.<\/p>\n Much of the mechanics of the original are the same, but they have been spruced up to match modern day sensibilities, so we will still be running from monsters and solving puzzles.<\/p>\n THQ Nordic has said developer Pieces Interactive has aimed for a 50-50 split between action and exploring\/puzzles.<\/p>\n There is a trailer for Alone in the Dark<\/strong>, which we have included for you down below.
