Today Podcast<\/a>, Rantzen said that she was currently waiting to hear whether the treatment is \u201cperforming its miracle or whether it\u2019s given up\u201d.<\/p>\nShe also revealed that she was exploring the possibility of assisted dying in the event that the treatment does not prove successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have joined Dignitas,\u201d she said, referring to the Swiss organisation that provides \u201cphysician-assisted suicide to members with terminal illness\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have in my brain thought, \u2018Well, if the next scan says nothing\u2019s working, I might buzz off to Zurich,\u2019 but it puts my family and friends in a difficult position because they would want to go with me.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd that means that the police might prosecute them. So we\u2019ve got to do something. At the moment, it\u2019s not really working, is it?\u201d<\/p>\n
She added: \u201cI explained to them that, actually, I don\u2019t want their last memories of me to be painful, because if you watch someone you love having a bad death, that memory obliterates all the happy times, and I don\u2019t want that to happen.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t want to be that sort of victim in their lives.\u201d<\/p>
Despite the difficult news, Rantzen began the interview in a positive mood, sharing the fact that she is glad to be able to celebrate Christmas, which she said was \u201cvery unexpected\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving decided that it would probably be better to tell people the truth when I got the diagnosis back in January, I thought I\u2019d fall off my perch within a couple of months, if not weeks,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI certainly didn\u2019t think I\u2019d make my birthday in June, which I did, and I definitely didn\u2019t think I\u2019d make this Christmas, which I am, it appears. Although, anything can happen \u2013 I live in a forest, a tree could fall on me!\u201d<\/p>
