Rumours persist that he’s in the running for another comic book gig. <\/p>

Aquaman star Jason Momoa will \u201calways have a home\u201d at DC Studios, according to its co-head.<\/p>\n

Peter Safran, who leads the studio in collaboration with writer-director James Gunn, made the comment as the industry braced for a disappointing weekend at the box office.<\/p>\n

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom<\/a> is not expected to perform on par with its predecessor, which grossed a staggering $1 billion, with industry experts fearing it could be a flop in-line with The Flash<\/a>, Shazam: Fury of the Gods<\/a> and The Marvels<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These meagre expectations led Momoa to tell Entertainment Tonight<\/a> that he may not have the \u201cchoice\u201d to keep playing Aquaman in future movies, adding: \u201cIt\u2019s not looking too good.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response, Safran told press at a Beverly Hills event (via The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>): \u201cWhen I think of Jason in this role, he is the definitive Aquaman. He\u2019s redefined it.\u201d<\/p>

Notably, prior to Momoa\u2019s casting in the role, Aquaman had been deemed something of a joke character by mainstream audiences, with the Game of Thrones alum giving him an edge that initially went down very well.<\/p>\n

Safran continued: \u201cIt\u2019s really been an 11 or 12-year journey for him. A lot of the audience doesn\u2019t realise that he was cast so long ago. It\u2019s kind of redefined him. When he took this role he was known as Khal Drogo, and now he\u2019s really Aquaman.\u201d<\/p>\n

The executive went on to say that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom could be the \u201cend of the journey\u201d, but that Momoa \u201cwill always have a home at DC\u201d.<\/p>\n

The seemingly contradictory remarks are bound to reignite rumours that Gunn plans to keep Momoa in the DC Universe moving forward, but to have him play galactic bounty hunter Lobo<\/a> rather than Aquaman.<\/p>\n
