Anjli Mohindra says a follow-up to the hit BBC One series could be “on the horizon” following a “nail-biting” finale. <\/p>

With its first episode attracting an audience of 10.2 million over seven days, making it the BBC\u2019s most-watched new drama of the year so far, it\u2019s perhaps inevitable that talks are afoot regarding a sequel to Vigil.<\/p>\n

Speaking to RadioTimes.com<\/a>, Anjli Mohindra \u2013 who plays medical officer Tiffany Docherty on the BBC One thriller \u2013 revealed that \u201cthere\u2019s been conversations\u201d about a second season.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think there\u2019s stuff on the horizon,\u201d she hinted. \u201cBut nothing confirmed just yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to the show\u2019s launch on 29th August, series creator and writer Tom Edge also hinted that a follow-up to Vigil was possible \u2013 with a twist.<\/p>

\u201cWe have probably told as many of the stories as we would wish to tell on a submarine,\u201d he said. \u201c[But] some of the characters that we have developed as we\u2019ve made it, they feel like characters that we\u2019d love to burrow into. So if there\u2019s a will to do it from everyone else then certainly I would be up for it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Could Vigil ditch its submarine setting? Whatever happens, Edge insisted that the conclusion to the first six-part series \u201cprovides enough closure, so that we\u2019re not going to frustrate audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is not a show that is going to feel frustratingly incomplete if it never comes back, and I was quite keen for that to be the case,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Mohindra too promised a final episode that will prove \u201chugely satisfying\u201d for loyal viewers. \u201cIt\u2019s nail-biting, it really is. The thrill factor keeps going up a notch. I was a bit breathless reading that last episode!\u201d<\/p>\n

The first three episodes of Vigil have been met with an overwhelmingly positive reception by viewers and critics, though Mohindra admitted that she did have some concern as to whether audiences would take to the show\u2019s claustrophobic atmosphere.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe started filming it just before COVID hit the UK, so the world has changed a lot,\u201d she explained. \u201c[I thought] the things that make the show brilliant are actually things that people might not want to see, i.e. people being trapped in a confined space. locked down together\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI think if it came out six months ago and we were still in the thick of lockdown two, maybe we might have all been like, \u2018Too much, too much!\u2019 \u2013 so yeah, it\u2019s brilliant that this joy for it is shared.\u201d<\/p>\n
